Look Park

Love this new record.

I was never a big Fountains of Wayne fan, but this is amazing! Not a bad track on it.

You dont get a more rousing opener on an album than shout part 1....its huge and epic sounding like a rolling chanting anthem. and the sparkling shimmering upbeat "stars of newyork" as it brightly chimes. I have to say while I suspected Look Parks album would be good being a fan of chris collingwood, I was surprised by the genre of the music. I was expecting a mixture of pop rock mixed with country twangers. what I actually got was acoustic and lushly orchestrated tunes that recall 70's folk rock. some of its gloomy in a nice way...."minor is the lonely key...I'm gonna haunt this place... crash that piano". its subdued in most places, but the songwriting and instrumentation is top notch stuff and the lyrics, always chris's strong point are awesomely quirky and will make you laugh unexpectedly in places. but it is a headphone album,thats where it shines ,the little subtle instrumentation things you dont nececsarily hear on first listen....the little vibes down in the mix. my only critism of this album would have to be chris singing at times...esepcially on the verse parts, its like he was singing guide vocals and decided to just use them. they didnt sound like that on FOW albums. he needs someone who knows vocal production. thats my little complaint. otherwise I am actually already looking forward to another look park album!
