Anything that this band puts out is unmistakably written from the heart and with a real passion, and I can't say the same for a lot of music these days. I got to see these guys live when they were touring with Coheed and Cambria and they just absolutely blew me away. As far as this album goes, the dynamics and composition is just absolutely astounding. The fact that this was only released a year a after act IV really speaks to the level of commitment and just natural flowing creativity that Casey Crescenzo brings to the table.

The Dear Hunter sits at the top of my best "new finds" of the last decade or so. I've never heard anything quite like this: definitely progressive, but more mature, melodious, and carefully crafted than all but those bands at the pinnacle of the craft. You can't classify this music, and you can't ignore it after you've spent some time listening to it. This band and this album are amazing, and I am not quick to praise new music.
  • how did i ever miss this band?

i'll blame it on age...i'm on the wrong side of 60 yrs old...hadn't heard of this band until i read an article calling Act V the prog album of the year for 2016. gave it a listen. suffice it to say i now own all the Act Cd's as well as several others. outstanding band...can't stop listening. any lover of quality rock/prog music should give this band a listen; you won't be disappointed. highly highly recommended.

Imagine you're a bird. You're sailing on the wind, chilling in the upper airs. Below you, you see a man with a rifle. You're not concerned, because you're way up in the clouds, and he probably won't notice you anyway. Then he shoots you out of the friggin' sky. This is how Act V sounds in a nutshell. Aside from the story and all that.
  • Brilliant!!

I normally don't do reviews. But in my opinion, this is the best The Dear Hunter has produced. One would say they are just like wine. Get it now, you won't be disappointed!

Act V is a masterpiece; It is unparalleled in musical creativity and musicianship. The talent this band oozes is baffling. I've been listening to The Dear Hunter for years and I still listen to them every day. You would be doing yourself a disservice by not listening to them and not completely falling in love with them. Although, be warned: once you listen to The Dear Hunter all other music will seem lackluster because no one is on the level of The Dear Hunter.
