Being a fan from the 80's this ranks right up there with Gretchen Goes To Nebraska. They had some excellent albums along the way but this is a total album from beginning to end. Like Getchen this touches on many of Kings X's song writing styles without a bad track to boot.

I love this album, and I reviewed it in the OTHER Ear Candy. So why is there two of them here? An iTunes oversight? OR, just simply the folks at Apple love the X so much that they put this up for offer twice? I'm thinking the later.

  • Introduction to King's X

As a long-time King's X fan who has listened to all their albums exhaustively, I thought I'd write a short primer on their best albums, for those interested in checking out the band and wondering where to start. (Personally, I don't think their Greatest Hits album is the best place to start.) Here goes: Ear Candy: Probably their most accessible album, and my favorite. Maybe their "softest" album, but it features some of their best songwriting, both musically and lyrically. Thinking and Wondering, A Box, Looking for Love, and Life Going By are all among my favorite King's X songs. Dogman: Probably their "hardest" album, and my next favorite. Maybe the best place to start for metal fans interested in checking out the band. Dogman, Fool You, Black the Sky, Cigarettes, and Pillow are all stand-outs. Even people who don't care for King's X always seem to like Cigarettes. Gretchen Goes to Nebraska: Their breakthrough album -- most critically acclaimed and maybe their best known. For guitarists looking for a good introduction to King's X and their music, start here (or so I'm told -- I'm not a musician myself). Even if you don't buy this album, check out "Over My Head," a King's X classic and arguably the best song in their catalog. ("Summerland" is another classic.) Faith Hope Love: The first King's X album I bought, the one that got me hooked. Gets better with each listen. (Give it a chance if you don't care for it at first -- it's worth it.) "It's Love" is another all-time classic that ranks among their best songs. Those are the best 4 albums to start with for listeners new to the band. Out of the Silent Planet, King's X (self-titled), Tape Head, and Ogre Tones (newest album, not yet on iTunes) are all solid albums as well, but are a little more uneven and will probably appeal more to people who are already fans. Enjoy!

King's X, a band that has conquered various trends in rock music, put together their most complete album in "Ear Candy". Melodic, progressive, tasty, and relatable, this album truly is a tasty treat for the cunning musical ear. Enjoy the sweets.
