The bad reviews on this album are sad to me. I went to the meet and greet at the concert right after its release and heard Bert speak about how proud they were of it. The people complaining about the sound quality or it sounding off etc. I guess didn’t realize that was intentional. Which is strange because they talked about it in interviews/articles. Bert also spoke about it on stage. They were going for a "raw sound" I thought it was very artistic and different to hear a band simply playing their music they didn’t use any computers at all, used analog equipment and no click tracks (so they have to rely on themselves to stay on tempo.) All of this together created a live performance feel. The lyrics of this album are extremely strong. A lot of the strong lyrics come from the fact that the album was inspired by the suicide of a very close friend of Bert’s. He hoped it would be an album that "can help people that feel isolated." The song For You is sad and loving it perfectly sums up what you want to say to a loved one who’s passed who means so much to you. And then there is the song Upper Falls. It is another song about Bert’s dear friend. It has a great melody and then it also has a heavier rock chorus as well as lyrics that really hit you and stick with you. Then for all the fans of the heavier Used sound it has songs like Rise up Lights and The Nexus that won’t disappoint. If you really are a true fan of The Used and have seen them in concert and love them live you will enjoy this album and especially the message and story behind it!

When I first got this album, I have to admit I wasn't a fan. It just wasn't for me other than maybe two songs. I think part of it is that it's VERY different from what they usually do, but good for them! Experimenting is all part of growing and bettering. I'm glad that there are people in the fan base who do enjoy this album, it seems to help/speak to a lot of them. I, however, am greatly looking foward to their next album.

I’ve been a fan for years with this band. One of my favorites, very talented on all levels. This record is different but still has that raw angst feel to it. I like the direction they’re going but I also really enjoy the hardcore side of them. I support the change and look forward to more music these talented individuals provide us. I don’t like the fact he hates our president, but I will still support the music. Thank you for all the wonderful years of music, The Used. Keep it coming!

This is some of The Used’s best work in such a long time. I don’t understand why there wasn’t more recognition for this album but it has to be one of my favorite! Sure I know some are disappointed with the production, and I can understand. At times it makes it feel like there’s less punch than there could have been, but I also love the raw sound. This is just an album The Used needed to make, and I can’t wait to see what they do next!!!

This is a completely unique record from anything The Used has ever done. It oozes passion and rawness, while still maintaining the bands iconic sound. Bert’s vocals are outstanding if not sometimes overshadowed by the drums and guitars. The entire record runs at a lower volume then normal which can be annoying, but the band feels more connected then ever and it’s a small complaint really. They’ve aged like a fine wine and each track is different from the next. I’m very pleased and proud of my favorite band for still having heart and soul when so many others follow trends. This is a beautiful record indeed.

I missed you guys. Been listening to you since I was in 7th grade and I’m now 27. So many great years ❤️ keep it up so the millennials will hear actual good music instead of crap.

This album is so good! Thank you, Bert, for coming full circle and speaking about topics relevant to all: suicide in our current society and the mistrust of the political system many younger people feel. Justin’s guitar work is amazing. All these songs are quality efforts—full songs with intros, guitar solos, natural breaks, and really emotional hooks. The production is the best. I was very skeptical about this new album given Quinn is no longer in the band. However, I think both him and Branden would be proud of this effort. It solidifies the Used’s legacy as a killer band that was completely unique and trail-blazing to its time.
