  • It's flaccid

I thought I would love this, but I was left feeling it was too commercial, too samey-samey and that Sonya Kitchell could be great if she were to focus and really commit. Make a commitment, to sing, to show off her range. I could have gotten away with purchasing just one song, Train. Live and learn.

  • Not your ordinary 19-year-old!

When I bought this album two or three years ago, I had no idea Sonya Kitchell was only 19 at the time. Her debut album reveals an astonishingly mature voice singing mature songs. There are no misses on this album, and several tracks are outstanding. Comparisons to Norah Jones miss the mark here. A) They don't sound the least bit alike; and B) Ms. Kitchell, quite simply, is better!
  • Just fair in many ways

I read other reviews when I bought this recording, but I'd say it's only a fair musical piece for any musical mood.

..thank you sweet, warm coffee....went in for a Starbucks and left with a card for a song of the day...innocent enough....four hours later, I am in my kitchen cooking dinner for my boyfriend and dancing to the soulful song of my new friend Sonya Kitchell....see coffee is healthy!!
  • I wouldn't be surprised if this actually bored someone to death (literally)

I really don't understand how anyone could like this. Her voice is too soft and too husky. I can barely hear her. And you call this pop. This is the drabbest pop i've ever seen...ever. I mean, don't get me wrong, although i like fast-paced upbeat songs, i have quite a couple of ballads and slow songs on my ipod. But this is waaaay too slow. Unless you like drab, pop and songs that will be forgotten in about 3-5 years, i suggest you don't buy this. I wouldn't be surprised if someone literally died of boredom listening to this

I walked past her performing at Bonnaroo this year and bought every cd that store had. She is captivating. You will love this CD... once you hear Train, you will be hooked. Her voice is passionate, creative, funky, jazzy, electric, sexy, well controlled and just youthful enough to keep you excited about being a part of her booming career.. cause you know it's just going to keep getting better

I was given a copy of this cd very shortly after it was released by my brother who is the guitarist for Sonya. It is still my all time favorite cd. I have recommended this cd to all my friends. I was fortunate to meet her backstage on one of her performances through my brother. Her personality is as beautiful as her music. I highly recommend the songs "Jerry", "Train", and "Words"

This is a fine offering for Kitchell. However it relies too much on the musical themes of its predecessors. There is fine tuning that really should be done before presenting your music to the throngs to come out the other end in one piece. This finicky music fan thinks that although Ms. Kitchell has a "nice" voice, it is not as soulful as the initial offerings of the the iTunes sampler would have you believe. The whole grouping of song is really very nice, but for my money I would pass next time. I give this effort three stars and a C+.
