I'm not going to review the score, after all, everyone already knows it's amazing. And if they don't know that, then they are either missing out or have no taste. 😁 This is worth so much more than the incomplete soundtrack album. Everything is here, and it's wonderful. Now bring on the complete recordings for the Two Towers!

Howard Shore's work on LOTR is the golden standard by which all other fantasy scores are measured. From the hopeful and noble cues of french horns to menacing percussion, mystical choral ensemble to mournful strings, Shore's compositions elevated its source material.

So glad this has finally been released on iTunes. Howard Shore’s music for these movies are some of most iconic, emotional, and moving pieces ever orchestrated. I count myself as one of the lucky few to have been able to download all three complete recordings for the original trilogy, first with The Two Towers, which was only available for a limited time before being pulled from iTunes. After popular demand came The Return of The King, which provided countless hours of listening pleasure. Hopefully they will bring back Two Towers for download, but for now this lifelong Tolkien fan is humbly content with having all music encompassing Middle Earth on one device.

I've been looking for the complete soundtrack for so long, and the physical copies are usually several hundred dollars. While I would obviously have preferred every song from the extended edition as well, 3 hours of LotR music is pretty dang great.
  • Simply one of the finest film scores ever composed

Howard Shore's scores for the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, along with John Williams' work on the 'Star Wars' movies, ignited my love of film music and scoring. This remains one of my favorite scores of all time, and one of the few I would call near perfect. A deeply atmospheric and thematically intricate listening experience. It remains an unparalleled benchmark when it comes to telling a cohesive and coherent story through music. Simply one of the finest scores ever written for a film. Bravo, Mr. Shore.
