Each new album is always a beautiful surprise: they vary but always maintain the classic Lanegan style. Mark, thanks for continuing to make great music which brings joy to my life.
  • Good stuff again.

Different from their first go-around. Darker...really good. The negative reviewer needs to just listen to the trees and go away. This ride ain't for you.

From Winding Sheet to Bubblegum and everything in between like his part of QOTSA I’m a huge Lanegan fan. I didn’t like much of Gargoyle but this album blends his love and strength in singing the blues along with his pursuit to stay relevant in the world of music that blends electronica and rock. Mark Lanegan doesn’t belong in a genre of music. He does what feels right for him. And fans like myself understand where he’s coming from. With Animals succeeds where Gargoyle does not. He takes his time, analyzing his thoughts and understanding of our current world. Where Gargoyle failed in what appeared to seek brief lyrical ideas coupled with electronica, With Animals exhibits the Lanegan we feel, understand, and believe as the beautiful painful blues that we can relate to and understand.

Am i the only person on earth who isn't impressed with anything Lanegan has done since the Screaming Trees disbanded? The Winding Sheet was cool and atmospheric, but every other album he's done sound boring, bland, lacking any musical substance and generally unimpressive. He had such a gift singing with the Trees but has let that all go in favor of being this new modern crooner. I'll go play Uncle Anesthesia or Buzz Factory instead....
