This is the one album I would listen too before every rugby game, that I played in while I was in College, to get me zeroed in and ready to play, and now it just brings back some of my favorite memories from the early ‘00’s.. If you like pure unadulterated rock, do yourself a favor and buy this album, every song on here is a gift from Slash to us!.

I was very happy with Apple when they made this album available. I put in a request for it and was pleasantly surprised to see it one day. The album is amazing. "The Truth" is my favorite track; it's so groovy and I love the storytelling. The lyrics to "Just Like Anything" blew me away with their creativity and hard-hitting message. The album also has some excellent variety, from funk, blues, to driving hard rock. Case in point, the 4th and 5th tracks "Mean Bone" and "Back to the Moment." Could there be any two songs with more opposite messages concerning women? I have to wonder if their placement back to back was purposeful...like he told the gold digger that he was cutting her off, but then she leaves and he realizes how much he needs her. Fans of Slash's more recent material owe it to themselves to check out his work with the Snakepit.

This is so underrated. The loose and grimy guitars give this album a bite that mixes so well with the funky bass and soulful lead vocals of Rod M’F’n Jackson. I can’t say enough about that guy. He is amazing and entirely underrated. Bottom line... this is slash at his best with a supporting line of huge personality that makes this album really stand out. Give it a try.

Everyone knows Slash and how good he is. Ain’t Life Grand is no different in that regard. Most are unfamiliar with Rod Jackson - he is one of rock’s most unsung vocalists. This release absolutely rocks, and Jackson’s vocals are a big part of the reason reason why. This is an album that absolutely deserved a bigger audience. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
