Come on GenXer’s, get with it. This album is timeless.
I fell in LOVE with Michael’s vocals, from the first note that floated into my ear from Album88, UGA’s alternative radio station in 1984. They were broadcasting from Athens Ga ☺️. R.E.M quickly became my favorite band, and defined my generation.
Sure, we had lots of other alternative groups; Siouxsie, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Bronski Beat… I could go on and on. I loved them all, but for me personally R.E.M has especially stood the test of time. I still favor them to this day, even though the ‘band’ is no longer.
Michael’s vocals have always been ‘home’ to me. When we were stationed in Germany, if I were homesick, just hearing his voice gave me comfort and happy memories of growing up in Georgia.
