  • A solid, meaningful album

Perhaps nothing will ever rival her debut album, but that’s a lofty standard to hold her to. What makes more sense is to judge this album among the music other artists are releasing. In that context, this record is among the best. Real instruments, real singing, meaningful lyrical content, strong melodies, and enough variety to keep your engagement through repeated listens while the entire project just sinks into your brain, beneath your skin and into your heart. I’d pretty much glossed over her last decade, maybe because I just didn’t make the investment or maybe because her records just weren’t resonating for me, but this one pays off. It’s enough to make me revisit her past decade to see what I may have missed. A benefit of not having paid enough attention to her later work is that I almost feel like I’m discovering Melissa all over again. It’s genuinely exciting.

I've been a ME fan since "Yes I Am". I've bought all her albums since, and have rarily been disappointed. And while "Skin" and "The Awakening" have remained my favorites, this new album rewrites that. This album takes me back to the very reason I fell in love with her in the first place.. Not a bad song on "The Medicine Show". If you loved ME back in the 90s, you'll love this album. I know I did.
  • She is just not changing with the times

It's more of the same from Melissa. She has been such a huge influence in my own music over the years but she is just not being very innovative anymore. The key to staying relevant is to change. This is more of the same once again. Melissa, stop trying to sound sexy and cool. I think she stopped singing from the heart a long time ago. Over sung and over artculated lyrics that are boring to say the least. The guitar parts sound the same as usual. This isn't a good album sorry Melissa.

This is the time I’m so happy for having CD players and computer downloads. If this was back in the day my 8 track or cassette would have worn out. After the 3rd listen I was singing with ever song. If I could pick 10 stars I would.
  • Such a great album!

This album is classic Melissa! If you liked Yes I Am you will LOVE this album! Even on the first listen, the title track, The Medicine Show, is just fun, and then you listen to the lyrics & understand it's importance. It slaps you in the face & wakes you up - HIGH HO HIGH HO E I E I O! Shaking, Wild & Lonely, Love Will Live and Faded By Design are catchy, fun, rockin', meaningful and are instant hits! I love Here Comes The Pain - which addresses the opioid crisis and the emotional song, Last Hello, is about the Parkland shooting in Florida. It is definitely gut wrenching. The other tracks: Suede, Woman Like You & This Human Chain are classic Melissa and truly feel like a warm blanket wrapped around you. I highly recommend this album! Give it a listen....or 20.

  • Was a huge fan until...

Melissa rocked the 90’s. Key word: ROCKED. Then she got married, had kids, got divorced, had more kids, got divorced again etc...along the way she lost her rock n roll attitude, her zest to bleed rock n roll for her fans. Listen to the song “You’re Little Secret “. That was the last great rock song she ever did. I’m still a fan but her music is just a little to sappy love mushy for me.

My initial reception of this super disappointed. I wanted each song to speak to me the way some of her earlier albums immediately did. The “sound” of this album has a 90’s feel, and some of the sounds/lyrics seem used... but as I’ve given it some repeated listens, it’s growing on me quite a bit.

Melissa Etheridge’s new album “ The Medicine Show” is amazing. She is so soulful and talented and she puts everything she has into each song and each performance. Her fans are the most loyal of anyone’s because we see her, we feel her and we take her mucus into our soul, our lives. Her voice is even better with age and her guitar skills are incredible. If you ever have a chance to see he live you WILL walk away a fan.
