Reviews

  • Poor Representation of a 2-Disc Set

The insanely abridged "partial album" offered here doesn't begin to do justice to the complete 2-disc set, which contains 40 songs. Worse yet, this version omits the tracks culled from Burnett's greatest works -- the 1982 EP "Trap Door" and its full-length followup, "Proof Through the Night" -- an album which, to my mind, is among the best rock records ever made. Seek out the CD and skip the iTunes version, but even then, be forewarned that many of the "Proof" tracks have been "reproduced" by T-Bone himself, including re-recorded vocals and radically different mixes that seriously mar the songs.
  • Amazing 40 song retrospective

Even if you've never heard his name before, you'll immediately recognize his fingerprints reflected in his style. Buy the complete album if you can find it. T Bone's life and influence reads like a veritable who's who of classic rock artists and various other associations who actually have something to say. An amazing, poet, artist, and producer (master of subtraction) .. the liner notes on his songs are an amazing piece of history .. for example from "Kill Zone": "Roy Orbison, Neuwirth and I were writing one day for Roy's album, "Mystery Girl" .. Roy died shortly after that without our having finished the lyric. Bob and I put it away for a time. Without Orbison, the song lacked context. Allan Ginsberg dropped by the studio one day, and he, Bobby, and I wrote a few verses that have now, sadly, been lost. The song finally got finished when Sam Shepard called up .. "
