  • Great Show; better in person

For people who may not know, this album differs from the most recent version. The world premiere (this version) was in Canada some time ago, and the show has changed since then. However, the music is still amazing despite being slightly different than some may have seen in person (I saw the show in Seattle a while ago and it was breathtaking). I hope they make another album with the recent music, but it’s been so long to wait for this one that it feels like asking for too much ;)

Found this through Jim and Tomic’s Musical Theater Happy Hour and now I’m obsessed with Ride the Cyclone. After getting really into the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee again, Jimi and Tommy were right, this has big Spelling Bee vibes as well as Assassins. I especially love Karnak’s narration for the soundtrack.

Saw this show and was floored at how fun a fresh it was. Well, as fun as a show about kids dying on a roller coaster could be. LOL The Ballad of Jane Doe stood out for the awesome visuals of a unblinking Emily Rohm doing vocal gymnastics wile floating and flipping across the stage. The entire cast was fun and quirky, just like their songs. Total fun from start to finish.

So weird. So different. Hilarious. Moving. Brooke Maxwell and Jacob Richmond are genius writers. This musical is one of the best things to come into my life. It sneaks up on you. It sticks with you.
