Don’t pay $20 for Dylan. The artist doesn’t get the money...you are paying a premium to Apple. Just go find a used copy of the CD’s.

not the best performance.. I prefer the one he did with Happy Traum on Greatest Hits 2... you may like The Band's version.. but this is the original.. this shows the song in the context of the Basement Tapes... I own a rough copy but as with many from that famous bootleg- it is hard to hear on modern equipment because it is not mixed down and Manuel's voice too loud shrieking in the right ear (or left)

May 24 the day the legend was born. Happy birthday mr Dylan seventy years old is yet another great achievement by you. Never stop. You are art and poetry in human form. Music has been saved by you, this is the ode of a sixteen year old fan but it is much less than what you deserve. I doubt you will see this but on the slight chance you do, come do a concert in Mississippi!! Please!! I have albums you need to sign!! I must see you at least once to complete my life. Keep inspiring the world. Your fans are impatiently awaiting more. By Reid Holyfield " in case you see this"

Though this compilation was mostly released for the hardcore Dylan fans, like me, I think many of these songs are some of his best. I've already heard many great songs and I've barely scratched the surface of this masterpiece that I now consider one of his greatest albums.

Few artists have been able to tell a story through their songs like Bob Dylan. Although this album contains some of his well known classics...it also contains raw versions of some rare and unreleased gems. For Bobby D fans new and old...there is something for everyone on this collection of rarities.

I've never been a big fan of box sets, so I put off buying this album. Usually there is good reason the alternate takes, and other songs are left unreleased in the first place. Biograph, the grandaddy of all box sets, was good, but most of the materail on Biograph had been previously released. The Bootleg Series, Vol. 1-3 is the exception to the rule. The material on this set, that had for years gone unreleased, is better than many of the songs that were on the original albums. Listening to this album made me wonder how songs like Moonshiner, Mama You Been on My Mind, Blind Willie McTell, and Lord Protect My Child had been kept under wraps for so long. Considering that this is a three disc set, with so many prevously unreleased gems, I'd rank this as good as any Dylan album. I realize that Dylan is one of the greatest recording artist of the last fifty years, and saying this album is as good as Blonde on Blonde, or Highway 61 Revisited is saying a lot. If your a Dylan fan listen for yourself, you won't be dissapointed.
