Still Joe's best after all these years! Among a string of brilliant albums in the early '90s.

Next to SWTA, this is my favorite Satch album. I Absolutely LOVE the tune; "Why" and the solo within. Brilliant!
  • I would die without this album

People forget to mention the better songs on this disc in favor of the "radio hits" Summer Song and the Extremist. New Blues and Motorcycle Driver are probably the best two songs on the disc as far as composition and execution. Don't forget War and the way it sends a message by almost never ending.
  • You'd have to be crazy not to have this one in your collection

If you were going to buy two tracks, I'd recommend Cryin' and New Blues. But there isn't a single song on here that is not worth listening too! Cryin' has all the emotion and raw power of Satch at his best and New Blues has the special vibe to it, it will take some where where few artist have gone. Don't let me tell you, listen and feel for yourself. I own every studio album and haven't regretted buying them sometimes more then once because I gave them to some to have so they could experience Satch and music at it's best!
  • Does not compare to earlier works

Summer song is great, Friends and Crying are catchy, the rest of songs are filler.
  • Many instant hits.

The Extremist is one of my personal favorites from Joe. Some songs I recommend are Cryin', Summer Song, Friends, and Rubina's Blue Sky of Happiness. This is the epitome of Satch's creativity.

Joe is a great guitarist. Just listen and you will understand. This album has no vocals because it is not required. This man can play anything with strings.
  • The Extremist doesn't disappoint...

Expect to hear the trademark Satriani sound in a more straight-forward and deliberate incarnation here. Tracks such as Summer Song, War, amd Cryin' instantly take the listener on a journey through Satriani's melodic and tonal landscape. Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness, a wonderful little bon-bon amidst the driving rock anthems, displays Satriani's knack of delivering a total musical expression across stylisic boundaries. Great album.
