  • Wasn't it Love?

Yes this as a "hardheadedKS" fan was a must find for me. It was good and provided some songs for enjoyment. But what I find most distressing is that on the origianal, as well as on the fist "California Metal" Mastedon had a song called "Wasn't It Love?" It seems no where to be found now days. They last Kansas song was "Perfect Lover" off their Greatest Hits, another hard song to find and the next Elefante song was Wasn't It Love? which doesn't even appear on the iTunes list. It would be nice if for what ever reason they could get that one back on, it would be a nice collection to my Kansas/Mastedon collection. By the way, the rest of the album is pretty good by the next one is better.
  • A piece of Christian metal history.

Mastodon were a project put together by the Christian rock/metal producer brothers John and Dino Elephante that featured a lot of guest stars playing diverse-sounding hard rock/heavy metal songs. This has a rawer and heavier sound than their second album Lofcaudio, but I don't think the songwriting is quite as good. This is an extremely rare album that is a must buy for fans of Christian metal and hard rock.

Another of my favorite CD's from the late 80's. I have both of the Mastedon CD's and they are EXTREMELY rare. Way to go iTunes - $10 is a great deal compared to $50 to $70 + if you can find one. Great Christian Rock, various vocalists including Mike Lee (Barren Cross) and John Elefante (from Kansas). My favorites are tracks 1, 5, 9, but they're all good. Also check out "LOFCAUDIO", their second CD.

I lost this CD along with a few others years ago and thought the only way I'd get my hands on it again would either be paying through the nose or getting some shady copied disc on the web. Now the wait is over. While some of the songs are a bit dated there are still some real gems on this one. If you don't get another song on here you owe to yourself to buy "Get Up".

What lame garbage! Its like there trying to write hair- metal songs for elevators. Thou I do think my Grandmother might like this.

This and the following album (Lofcaudio) were much more popular in their time than many know. Both of these fall in my top 10 of all time and are a rare find. It's great to see them on iTunes, as you can pay up to $70 for an original CD on Ebay. John and Dino Elefante made this album shortly after John's career as lead singer for Kansas (if you listen to the Vinyl Confessions and Drastic Measures albums, you'll hear their influence). If you like the Kansas song, Fight Fire With Fire, then you'll love this entire album. There have been rumors of a reunion for years... we can only hope! This is great stuff...

I prefer their second album LOFCAUDIO a bit more, but I still think this is one of best melodic/AOR rock albums ever released. I enjoy both Mastedon albums incredibly, they are at the tip top of my list of favorites. John & Dino Elefante and crew were onto something here, something I have heard virtually no other bands replicate in my search for good melodic rock/metal. The best song in the whole bunch is "Get Up" IMO...you can't beat the chorus...so 80's. Not a bad song in the whole bunch really.

I have both Mastedon albums on cassette and have been hoping for years to find a good deal on replacing them. Got these this past weekend -- all I can say is: SWEET!! I love this album; the follow-up, Lofcaudio, was a bit too slick for my taste at the time (although it has since grown on me) but this album has been one of my favorites since its 1989 release. When I bought it at the tender age of 18, I had no clue about John Elefante's previous stint with Kansas; what I did know was that he and his brother wrote and produced one heck of an album. From start (and what a start it is; the title track is an absolute knockout!) to finish, this album is a no-holds barred rocker (with the obligatory late-80's ballad), covering a wide variety of styles. If you like rock, hard rock, or heavy metal, and aren't of the mind set that anything older than yesterday isn't worth your time, check this out. Thank you, Elefantes, for finally getting these albums back in the public eye.

I have been looking for this all over the place. Why did I ever give this away back in '91. This is an excellent collection of songs and if I remember correctly band line-ups. Back in its day this album with Christian themes could musically hold it's own and still does today. I wish they did more.
