A master class in songwriting and Butch, to no surprise, absolutely nailed this concept album. Think: Billy Joel with a touch of Elton, The Eagles and a voice that is the second coming of Jackson Browne. Easily my favorite album of 2022.

I love to see artists grow and evolve. I don’t need the same album churned out with a new title slapped on it every other year for a couple decades. Sometimes I go along for the journey and sometimes I might take a break and come back. I have been following Butch since 2004 and have seen him evolve, grow, and change as an artist since then. Glenn is a concept album and I here for it.

On the surface, this is definitely different from his prior records in a lot of ways, but the solid musicality shines through and once you’ve seen him perform some of the songs, it takes them to a whole new level. Missed the recent tour? Head to the internet and check out some fan footage or the official making of video. If you’re familiar with his prior work, solo or group, it’ll make immediate sense when you find out the back story behind the origin of this concept record and the source of the bulk of the lyrics. His passion and joy in making and sharing music shines through in the production and performance of this album. Don’t miss out!

It might be difficult to look past the fact that this is another themed album but don't let it fool you. The album still has its hooks, melodies, harmonies and lyrics. In other words, all the BW staples we've come to expect. Not to mention the man still puts on one of the best concerts you'll ever witness. Highlights are Roll Away (Like a Stone), Holy Water Hangover and Lean Into Me.
  • No More Themes Please

I'm a long time BW and Marvelous 3 fan, and I never thought there would come a day that I didn't love a Butch Walker album, but I've yet to make it through this album without skipping tracks here and there. It's a little bit painful to listen to. Some of the lyrics are a little forced and the whole lounge-theme thing just doesn't work for me. It doesn't have the natural ease and flow that Butch has always had. And I know as an artist, you've got to experiment a bit and do something different, but this is not an album I would ever recommend to someone who is not already a fan. Lots of love for ya Butch, but after two-themed albums in a row, I hope the next one gets back to just a great collection of BW songs that we can't wait to see live and sing along!

Long time BW fan and this one doesn’t work for me. It’s better than his last release, but still a big “nope”. I’m skipping his live show this year because I don’t think I can stomach hearing “Closest Thing to You” AND this stuff in one show.

His albums since Affraid of Ghosts have been alright. Nothing special or remarkable about them. He needs to find the inspiration that made him write Ghosts. The vulnerability and pain of Ghosts is what made it so great, since then, he is just writing catchy pop tunes.
