I'm always happy to hear new Nina Gordon material. She could afford to be a little more prolific, but absence makes the heart grow fonder. As much as I enjoy Nina's music, every time I hear her platinum vocals I am reminded of how much better they sound when crossed with the hard guitar that was and still is Veruca Salt. Clearly Nina is the McCartney in the Gordon/Post song writing relationship, but how many times have you heard a great Paul McCartney song and still wished it were The Beatles.

The immediate impression after the first couple of plays is that the long-awaited follow-up to "Tonight And the Rest of my Life" is a little disappointing -- especially if you're a fan of Veruca Salt or preferred the higher-tempo tracks from her solo debut -- but give this one time. You won't regret it. For me at least, this is the quintessential "grower"; live with it for a while and it becomes clear that this is a much more complete and mature effort than its predecessor, one whose greatest impact is when it's appreciated from start to finish. Dripping with gorgeous melodies and supported by some lovely lyrics, this is a must-have if you liked TatRoML.

I LOVED Nina's 1st album and was so excited to get this album, there are not many songs I like on this album. I think Nina's voice sounds the best to the song suffragette and she should sing more songs like that

I just came in from Radio Nowhere and found this. This is the best I have heard since Carol King. No sweet sentimental stuff, definitely Rocker backing. Love it. I am an old white guy but this one got me rocking. I can see why it took so long to get this album out. The quality really shows. Has a great engineer on the boards. This has got to be the album of the year!!

I really enjoy her album. She has some really good songs and some ok ones. Her voice is amazing as always. I would definately recommend this album if you are looking for something to fun and hearting breaking at the same time.

I can't believe an artist this good has been around so long and it's taken me this long to find her. Gorgeous voice, beautiful, haunting lyrics, and a really great concept. If you want a sample, try "Kiss me", Turn on your radio", but without the whole thing, you're just missing out

While this is not one of those albums I listen through from tracks 1 to 15, it's highlights are "song of the year" kind of highlights. For me...it comes down to two tracks. Track 3 ("Kiss Me Til It Bleeds") is the first single, and is absolutely infectious. Gordon has a real gift for writing a song whose verses and bridges are both attractive and unpredictable. Was that way with Veruca Salt, and continues that way here as well. It is hard for a song to be cute and sassy at the same time, but she pulls it off with aplomb. Meanwhile, for me, the really underrated song here is track 6 ("Don't Let Me Down"). Lyrically, stylistically...just a very beautiful song. Some of the remainder of the album gets a little redundant (especially the latter half). None of the songs are bad (I think this woman is incapable of writing a bad song). They just have a sameness to them. All in all, an extremely solid sophomore effort that was worth the half-decade wait.
