Normally the original has room to improve, but it's by far the best album by the dolls. :)
  • One of a kind band

I got this album not long after it came out, and after listening to it hundreds of times, it drifted off into the depths of my iPod. I recently came back and it is more moving than I even remembered. All of the songs have such deep meaning and Amanda's voice is just amazing. The Dresden Dolls may not be for everyone, but it is amazing music and I hope everyone gives them a chance and supports such an awesome band a chance.
  • This album is incredible.

Amanda Palmer has a powerful command of the narratives in her sons, so much so that the listener can get confused as to which character and role is the empathetic one, and therein lies the brilliance of her work: in many Dresden Dolls songs, you're on both sides, feeling both perspectives, and you have no other choice but to tumble down the rabbit hole with Amanda and Brian. This debut was a step off stage and into the studio, so a lot of the song's elements feel like theatre adapted for the silver screen; there's polish where maybe there needn't be, and sometimes the composition gets a little crowded, but it is still a fantastic record about loneliness, despair and recovery.

Someone actually told me about this band in a random chatroom. I wasn't expecting very much, but after one listen to Missed Me I was completely blown away. The vocals are sometimes a little wonky, but it just adds to the atmosphere of the music. Absolutely lovely.
