I have been a fan for awhile and this album easily explains why. Triolet is fantastic as is Organ Grinder and Evangeline.

If there's not a Mr. Blotto Fan Club, I would like to personally start one. What a great find! Fluid harmony, nimble transitions, progressive guitar riffs and lyrics--very tight. I wouldn't call them a Jam Band exactly--maybe a "Style" Cover Band. I hear a lot of Jerry Garcia, some Outlaws riffs, Greg Allman crooning, even a little Leon Russell in Evangeline. Rattle My Cage is Elizabeth Reed all over again. Very versatile offerings. Great instrumental segments. My favs though are the beautiful Rosalie, That's What I Said, Organ Grinder, and One by Night. The entire album is fantastic, especially the Dead flavors. I'm totally sold on this band. Please tell me they're going to put out another album soon!

There is nothing better than hearing this band live at 8 PM on a perfect summer Saturday evening in July at a Chicago Streetfest. A few hundred fans and newcomers dancing in the street and being moved by the energy and quality of the music. This album is just a slightly more polished and less improvisational version of a few songs from their vast repetoire. My personal favorite for now is Rosalie but any one song is too narrow a representation of their versatality. Their past few albums are just as great. Cant say enough about this band!
  • A solid Blotto album

This album is very well-done and well crafted. There is a little something for everybody to like, but jamband fans will love it. Faves are the incredibly catchy That's What I Said, Clampdown World and Almost. The stark Appalacian is one of my favorite songs to see the band perform live in recent years. More Blotto on I-Tunes please!

Outstanding! Great songs, crunchy jam guitar, tight all the way around. Stand out tracks for me are the ska jam Negril and Thats What I Said. But every song rocks! I've enjoyed numerous live shows by Mr. Blotto and was thrilled to see them finally on itunes. Way to go Chicagoland Rockers!!!!!

Just excellent songs and great lyrics all the way through. To quote a recent review of the album in The Music Box: ...Had [Mr. Blotto] opted to tour the country, the ensemble likely would be better known outside the region, particularly within the circles that typically are frequented by jam band addicts. By its own choice, the group humbly has opted to balance family life with career aspirations, thus remaining firmly planted within the Windy City. Its latest effort Barlow Shanghai, however, just might be the thing that forces the band’s members to leave the cozy confines of their homes. Simply put, with the help of former Grateful Dead lyricist John Barlow, Mr. Blotto has made its biggest statement to date, one which ought to inject a bit of perspective into the improvisational rock scene.
