And of course we are all deeply impressed by the clever use of vulgarity.

I stumbled across the song Coyote on Pandora- I'm so pleased that the rest of the album is as good! She has some of the best lyrics I've heard from a new artist. I think Coyote is still my favorite song on this. I really recommend giving it a listen!

Another reviewer said, "voice like an angel, mouth like a sailor," and that sums it up nicely. I can't help but smile through this entire album (and "It's Gettin' Hot in Herre" and "Things We Don't Need Anymore"). Take a chance and buy this. You will be smiling too.

I first heard the song F*** Was I from the show Weeds and I'm so glad I saw that episode. From that show I matched the voice with the name and checked out her myspace page and listened to some of her other stuff and I've been hooked since. I'm hoping she stays around for a very long long time. There is a song that's not on this album you might want to check out, it's called "Didn't Know".

Jenny Owen Young's music is as soothing and delightful as her lyrics are sharp and insightful. This whole album is great, but F**k Was I stays with me all day long. Pleasantly so.

We saw Jenny opening for Aimee Mann in London 3 days ago. She was amazing! She had the crowd eating out of her guitar playing hands! We didn't know who she was when she walked out onto the stage, but everyone loved her when her set was over. Her singing, lyrics, guitar playing and song writting are so good - she is destined for greatness. Buy this album!!! See her play live if she comes to your town!

The album as a whole has a very consistent sound, so if the music matches perfectly with your tastes you will probably like the whole album. My personal opinion is that the tracks sound a tad too similar in such a way that I find myself skipping to the two or three tracks I enjoy most and then ignoring the rest of the album. "F**k Was I" is the only track that has a significantly different sound. It is a novelty song with the gimmick being the odd use of the word that people still consider offensive. The track is fun but not something that I will likely listen too outside of its quirkiness. From a musical and lyrical standpoint I find it lacking. My personal favorites are "Lightning Rod" and "Voice On Tape". "Lightning Rod" has lyrics that I feel pull the music through but neither are strong enough to make the track near the top of any of my playlists. It will likely be included a few times as filler and to give people a taste of someone they may not have heard. "Voice On Tape" sounds like a weak track from Imogen Heap but it still plays well. The cameo from Regina Spektor was clever and the lyrics are strong enough to keep this track on my playlists. All in all, I find her particular sound a tad mundane, but I know that it will match itself well with a lot of people. I suggest "F**k Was I", "Lightning Rod", and "Voice On Tape" and if you like them go for the rest of the album. Personally, I will only keep "Voice On Tape" around for any real length of time before I move on to something else.

We all see that fake crap that's heard constantly on the radio. But Jenny Owen Youngs' 'Batten The Hatches' is a classic because her talent is raw and real. You've got to get the CD. Not just a few songs. You need the CD. Trust me.
