If the Violent Femmes and Bob Dylan had a love-child, it would be Ezra Furman & the Harpoons. Ezra's lyrics are not so overly metaphoric that they're Love Minus Zero/No Limit, but not simple enough to be Gimme the Car. I initially put Ezra on my iTunes back burner, but one day, he came on during shuffle, and I nearly wet my pants. I've never turned back - Ezra deserves a place on every mix tape I make! Delight in his angst-ridden yelps, revel in the simplistic guitar-twanging, and lose yourself in the refreshingly free lyrics.

Seriously, this album is too good to believe. Every song is clever (without being annoying) and played to perfection--and the whole album can be listened to on repeat over and over again. I've had it for about six months now and still go back to it several times a week. Can't wait for the upcoming (soon!) new release! For fans of CYHSY, Bob Dylan, Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips, Talking Heads, and breathing, eating, and sleeping.
  • Weird... and addicting!

I heard Ezra's interview on Chicago Public Radio over the weekend and was intrigued by the clip they played of "Mother's Day." Gritty, not overproduced, and honest. Dylan comparisons aside, this album rocks. True, sometimes Ezra yelps out/hollers the lyrics, but that's part of the charm. Somehow, it works. The brilliant guitar brings it all together. There seems to be a lot of passion there. One of the best things I heard in his interview: Ezra said his inspiration comes from procrastination. Well said. It does for a lot of us!
  • Ezra is a poet

I have been listening to Ezra since I went to camp with him after my freshman year of high school. I've been a big fan of all the great musical poets like Dylan. I think the comparison is appropriate, but fails to acknowledge the overpower sincerity, innocence yet power of Ezra's unique perspective on the world. Listen to this album... then listen to it over and over. Try to sing along until your voice gives out. And sooner or later this brilliance will hit you like it hit me. Wear a helmet

i first heard Ezra in a radio interview, and at first i wasn't sold, but like ezra said on the radio, he's a writer before a musician. The words are so meticulously chosen and provide an elequence without being too pretentious. The harpoons are fabulous and the sound is fresh and it totally grew on me!! i greatly recomend this CD! download right away and listen to Mother's Day, The Little Red-haried girl, and i dreamed of moses. they make me so peaceful and happy and i think this group will have the same effect on any who really give them a chance!!
  • Folk That Actually Rocks.

Ezra Furman has an unusual voice. When he sings, he does so in a sloppy sort of way: he doesn't quite hit all those notes and sounds kind of like he's yelling. But something about his voice is still downright charming. I s'pose that's where the Bob Dylan comparisons come in. He is truly a storyteller, a man of the country, traveling and sharing his tales where ever he might be. Ezra Furman & The Harpoons play folk rock with a natural vigor. This isn't your sit-in-a-coffee-shop-and-contemplate-life folk. EF&TH intend to get you on your feet and moving. Be sure to check out "Mother's Day."

This album is incredible. Already expecting it to blow me away, I listened to it, and it took me to a place that only my pet gecko, Figment, had taken me before. I predict that I will listen to this album 2379 times. 2379. Anyone? No? That's alright.
