Not one song on this album is lacking. This album was made by the band but maybe not in the the direction they wanted to go, Its amazing none the less. The songs all flow together but still have a differance between them. Its a fantastic album live too. I have seen them in concert a few times and the songs sound even better than they do on the album, if thats possible. Listen to the album in full and not by individual songs. You won't be dissapointed!

They are always wonderful. A group that has inspired me. I found them online years ago when they started, and I haven't stopped listening to them yet. And I doubt I ever will. Ever song is better than the last.

with eisley's second album, the band is probably anxious to start writing and playing new material and move away from recycling old material back from the days as a lowly unsigned band. the songs on this collection show maturity in eisley as well as experimentation with different styles. first off, if you weren't a fan at all with the first album, give this album a try, you may find yourself falling unexpectedly in love with eisley as the songs here are a lot more accessible then the first (but not in anyway un-eisley). lyrics and melodies on this batch of songs are less fairytale like and a little less silly, but it's still eisley, just a bit more grown up. the sisters harmonies are just as perfect and spot on as ever, but the issues with this album is with some of the band's heavier songs and lyrics. while many funeral starts off fast, heavy, and dark, it immediately loses fire after the first chorus and seems like an idea that was only half worked out. invasion makes up for many funerals' as it sounds more complete and worked out with the vocals and instrumentals being perfect with it's haunting intro and melody; this is proof the new eisley is more fast paced (most likely for the better as it kinda represents them growing up and evolving). taking control takes the album from dark to happy and upbeat. it almost seems like a christian influenced song to some degree, and it shows that eisley can still write amazing happy tunes, however, the lyrics to taking control are border line repetitive. the next two songs go away and i could be there for you cross the lyrical boundry of repetiviness. while there is a bit more substance in the songs, the chorusus repeat the title of the track over and over, so the listener goes off only remembering those parts, but the songs superb melodies make up for the lyrical downs. come clean and ten cent blues make up for the lyrical downs and the melodies show classic eisley doing chill, but still entertaining songs. a sight to behold is also another heavy song gone wrong, however, unlike many funerals, it's a full developed idea and it shows that eisley still has some growth and maturity left to do if they want to be able to pin tracks that are both fast paced, and heavy. the beautiful self-titled track, combinations, comes back with a fairytale dream melody that almost sounds like a tune from an exotic land. the album ends with the nice calm lullaby if you're wondering which is the only song on this album that goes onto the topic of night and sleep. while if you're wondering closes off the album nicely, it's hard to walk away from listening not feeling that eisley could've added more songs to this album and still be good. not by any mean a bad album, eisley has some work to do on new stuff (hey at least they're trying something different instead of recycling the same sounds) and hopefully next time we get a better length album

After I was introduced to this nothing-short-of-amazing band, I was a big fan Room Noises and its hauntingly beautiful sounds. Naturally I decided to get Combinations and I have to say, I'm really speechless. Their songs are amazing and thier sound only improves. Both CDs have their own distinct sound while still maintaining that dreamlike feel. I CANNOT wait until their next.

We love Eisley here in Tulsa, OK and cant wait until they come back and rock T-town all over again. This band has it all when it comes to vocals and great beats. My two favorite bands are Eisley and Silent Violet from Detroit, MI. You must buy both of thier music ASAP.
  • This is a very good album!

I am a very new Eisley fan, but I am a whole hearted one. I have to say, I'm more a fan of the old Eisley. I loved the dreamy pop ballads off of "Room Noises." they were extremely easy to listen to with their haunting harmonies. They were beautiful songs. Now, with "Combinations," Eisley has turned a corner. The songs are much darker, more minor keys, less happy ooohs and ahhs. Many Funerals and Invasion are excellent. While they are dark, they are crafted wonderfully. "Taking Control" is wierd because the chorus is like a rock/pop song, but the verses don't fit at all. But the choruses are worth the song. "Go Away" is great. THe vocals and piano really help it stand out. "I Could be There for You" is, in my opinion, the weakest link. It's ... wierd. It's not very melodic. "Come Clean" is another of the strongest tracks, as is "Ten Cent Blues". "Sight to Behold" returns to the dark side of the album, echoing a rockier style of "Many Funerals," "Combinations" and "If You're Wondering" wrap up the album well, but a little anticlimacticly. "Wondering" is a beautiful song complete with xylophone and rainstorm. Overall, I think its a good album, but "Room Noises" was a great album. I preferred the fantasy that made Eisley what it was. I also am not a huge fan of the marxophone and ukelele that make appearances. They just don't seem to fit. I appreciate that Eisley is trying new things, but the old formula worked, so why fix it?
