All the songs on Summer in the City are terrific. There is so much energy in this concert, you can feel it come out of your speakers. Great performance by Joe and his band.

I'm surprised that J.J. fans in the iTuneiverse aren't all over this very savvy & enjoyable set, which employed a similar format to the 1 utilized for his latest, RAIN(which also sounds quite worthwhile, from the samples)--the dif being, no overdubs here, just a near-telepathic trio challenged w/ rendering a diverse collection of material effectively, & rising to the challenge impeccably. I remember hearing some of this on public radio when it came out, & thinking that Joe(& collaborators)sounded inspired & invigorated by the stripped-down format, & that this was 1 to look for...I'm not usually much for medleys, but the interweavings & interpolations of originals & shrewdly(yet sincerely)selected covers here are...well, brilliant! & Joe's 1st-rate songwriting, evocative singing & fine piano-playing are all shown to great advantage, w/ just the right amount of(very creative)support. I saw the tour w/ Todd R. & Ethel, liked it much, but wished I'd seen Joe w/ a full band; now I'm thinking the trio may be the optimal context for him...No true fan should pass this by!!
