  • Brilliant, but...

Incredible. Not as good as Closer in my opinion, just has a more recognizable album cover, but marvelous none the less.
  • Highly underated influence

EPIC....I must apologize to the music gods. I have been a huge New Order fan since 1981. But somehow the brilliance of Joy Division slipped through the cracks. I recently saw the film Control and it compelled me to go back and explore the catalog and I'm blown away by Ian Curtiis and his influence from NY punk band and Bowie. Joy Division is a rosetta stone for the alternative movement as much as the Pistols. The band as a whole are remarkable. I also REALLY prefer the emphasis on Hook Sumner and Morris...th pre New Order heavy guitar, bass, drum influence which was washed out (not complaining) with NO. Buy all their stuff and enjoy.

This was one of the albums that everyone had and listened to while inebriated. It was so dark and mysterious and filled with emotions that I could only begin to fathom. It became a part of me, the foundation for all I love in music: striking, forceful, twisted unique and emotionally bare and honest. Lou Reed with Nico (Andy Warhol Album) was another in this genre.
  • A true classic

A very well made masterpiece. This album was made in the great year of 1979, the year when some of my favorite bands, The Cure and Gary Numan, first started their great careers. It's a shame that Ian Curtis killed himself, but he completely changed music the way we know it with this album. Buy this and Closer and you won't regret it, the lyrics on both these albums are just plain beautiful. My favorite song off of this album is New Dawn Fades, and how the dark lyrics blend in to the music is just perfect.

Just simply Joy Division at their best. This album is great for any Joy Division fan because you can listen to it on the go and it features spectacular Live Versions of the songs.

Way back when I was a young man, I came across these newly released records, and wow I was hooked. All these years later on my digital music device appropriately called an IPod I still have Joy Division and still enjoy their music and story quite frequently. I don't know who the reviews are for but if you really don't own any Joy Division please do so, they're all an easy pic. My favorite is Closer, but you can't go wrong. If you don't buy any Joy Division you're probably a wanker
  • I've been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand

Brilliant. Simply brilliant. 30 years later it still holds up. Ian Curtis left this world far too early, but what he (and the rest of JD) left behind packed so much into so little. Thank you, Ian.
  • It doesn't get any better.

Get this now, don't put it off. Download this now so you can listen to it on the way to the store to buy the CD and the vinyl. What's even better is that it comes with a whole CDs worth of live tracks. And while I do agree with another reviewer that said the studio versions of the non-album songs should be here, it's still a great addition as Joy Division were incredible live, and the more live recordings available, the better.
