Having seen Cactus live once in my extreme youth (at the venerable Aragon Ballroom in Chicago!), many years later it was my very pleasant surprise to wind up working a few gigs with long, tall gee-tar slinger Jim McCarty's very under-rated "new" band, the Rockets. WOW! They consistently set the house on-fire, wherever they played. Fans of this style of no-frills all-American power-boogie rock should definitely check out the Rockets if they dig Cactus. Trust me on this!

...and I got a 50 cent (cigarette/) rolling machine to go with it! No matter what accolades are given to Carmine Appice as a power drummer, he is still underrated!!! I was 14 when this album came out and he couldnt have been more than 20, probably younger...I suppose the lyrics in Bag Drag: "Oh, what a drag, Living from a plastic bag, Oh what a drag, breathing in the burning rag!!!" were a sort of unconscious mantra for all the droopy faced and haired teenagers of early 1970's white suburbia. But the funky rhythms, tastyloud guitar chops, and half protest style/half laugh at ourselves lyrics make this album an ideal snapshot of true blues based barely post-Hendrix party rock!
