This tune is not "Worthy of Your Contempt"

The best track on this new offering from James and West finds lead guitarist Russell Richards ripping back the edges of what is otherwise a tautly constructed dirge. The West Coast instrumentalist drops some bombastically bad axe riffs in “Worthy of your Contempt” right from the get go, as heavy and hard as the best of them (including his namesake Keith Richards), and he never lets up. So where has this guy Richards been hiding? In a handful of other bands from what I can gather. But Russell establishes himself with such blistering force in this tune that he sometimes threatens to overshadow songwriter Darrin James’ superbly drafted lyrics: “I brought the gasoline, so lose that stare. You strike the match and we’ll dance while we dare”. It’s this kind of cat and mouse tradeoff between Russell and James on this heady tune that allows it to flow seamlessly with such stellar effect, especially during the choruses. This track is officially on my IPOD repeat and there’s no telling when it will be freed up.
