Reviews

  • Not their best work, but still quite good.

I have to admit it is very good, but in comparison to "The Dresden Dolls" and "Yes, Virginia" it dosn't compare. I'll have to give it four stars because it isn't terrible, it just lacks that one ingredient that makes it as good if not better than the previous albums.
  • your on your own brian....

Thank god for "Who Killed Amanda Palmer" because she makes up for all of the selling out they did on the last two albums.

is the clear, studio-recorded version of ultima esperanza. i've been listening to a ridiculously low quality boot of this for years now, at one point even hoping that they'd record it for yes virginia.... and now... too blissful. love the whole thing. but that's what's got me geeking out :)
  • if you've been missing the dresden dolls...

you still will be... B-sides are B-sides for a reason... and as much as i love their first two full length records, this was a miss... BUT!!! it does have some gems Night Reconnaissance... i think should have been saved for the next full length and been made the single... it is fantastic... i'm not going to say which songs i don't like because again, i can't help but love Amanda and Brian...

love this record. every single song is incredible; a rarity in my opinion. if you like the dresden dolls, you will love this album. very energetic and dynamic, great melodies, interesting lyrics, incredible musicianship, super artsy and daring. i love the dresden dolls. like tori amos's 'little earthquakes' 15 years ago, 'no virginia' reaffirms my hope for pop music and for the youth of america.
  • A bit dissapointing.

I'm a bit dissapointed. I've heard all of these songs except Dear Jenny and The Gardener before. I wish they would have started with something new. Although I have to say I've been waiting for a downloadable version of The mouse and the model for a very long time.

After you get over the fact that half the songs were already out before this cd, you realize it's still pretty incredible. Their style--unique, entrancing,...everything we love. Punk cabaret's still got it!!!!!
