Reviews

  • Kind of a disappointment.

I totally agree with the iTunes reviewer. I love CPD, but this album hardly shines compared to some of their better work. Songs that sound alike at first, that you think will distinguish themselves after more listening... Turn out to be simply unremarkable musically. While I've seen the Daddies struggle lyric- and music-wise in their earlier albums and shine in other songs, "Susquehanna" give me the impression that Steve Perry is just trying to stay out of the unemployment line with this one. In answer to an earlier reviewer: the number of genres combined in an album is moot if the songs are mostly forgettable.
  • Your next phase, I promise.

This is a great album. Particularly for anyone who is currently bored with what's on their playlist. Looking for something new? Buy this. Whoever wrote the iTunes review is way pompous and pretentious. Quit being difficult to impress, you snob.
  • Best album from the CPD's ever!

well of course there is zoot suit riot, which still surpasses anything! but all in all its a great album (with the exeption of breathe, the good things and blood orange sun) :^)

First of all condescending reviewer man, they have gone back to pre-swing movement ska/punk, check out "kids on the street". The swing jazz years were good but they're done. Cuts on this release like "hammerblow", and "Hi and Lo" are great offerings, much in the same scope as "Kids on the Street" & "Don Quixote" from some 12 years ago. I for one welcome the change as swing has been soundly put back into its coffin for another generation to unearth some time in the distant future along with those zoot suits.
  • Absolutely Brilliant

Apparently the reviewer is biased towards rock or ska. I thought this CD was wonderful. While there were a few ska songs on here, as well as a few swing, the total variety of sounds contained is a refreshing change to the bland pop rock or rap that is currently being regurgitated by the recording industry. I really liked the Latin influence on this one, and Steve Perry's witty lyrics were as usual a treat.
  • Wrong as usual, iTunes.

In their continual efforts to be the worst media player on the market, iTunes reviewers are apparently only listening to the 30 second samples of the albums they sell. This is a great album, as CPD continues to become a more solid band musically, really getting their horn section to blend much better than their earlier releases. And "Bust Out" sounds not much like the Squirrel Nut Zippers and more like, survey says, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. And thanks for making them "The" Cherry Poppin' Daddies so that my album will be filed as a different band. Take your copy of Rolling Stone and go retire your ears.
  • Great Album

The iTunes reviewer got this one all wrong. Songs like "Bust Out" and "Tom the Lion" will have everybody out on the dance floor shakin' their lovemakers. The rest of the album is also worthy of note. Take no heed of the provided review, this one is definitely worth it!
  • Any Daddies fan needs this album!

While there are tracks I am not keen on, most of the album is very well done. Bust Out and White Trash Toodle are guaranteed to get you moving. The rest of the tracks are quite enjoyable and some are musically amazing. This whole album is worth getting as it is well made from start to finish by a band that has been rocking the joint since 1989 with no signs of slowing down.
  • Are we listening to the same CD?

Look, this isn't a perfect CD by any means (I detest "Breathe" and "Wingtips"), but it is much better than the iTunes review suggests. "Hammerblow" and "Blood Orange Sun" are instant classics and most of the other songs are considerably better than anything else on the pop music scene currently. What other band mixes flamenco, ska, swing, heavy metal, reggae, and soca on the same CD? While this may limit their sales and airplay, it earns a great deal of respect from this reviewer for ambition and range. CPD are still my favorite band and this is a remarkable addition to their body of work.
