Autechre has only three ‘normal-ish’ sounding albums (Incunabula, Tri Repitae, and Amber) before they devolve into computerized chaos, and this is the second. This is, in my opinion, their most emotive and most mature. It can sound downright daunting and scary, but that’s part of the ride. Even the most ‘peppy’ songs at first glance, like Slip, or ambient songs like Nine or Yulquen, have something hiding in the background, ready to come out on the next track. Some of the tracks come outright with it, like Further and Teartear, two of my favorites. Altogether, this is the only album of the three that sounds satisfying from start to finish. My favorite songs have to be either Further or Piezo. This album gets a 10/10

A couple of ok songs but extremely repetitive and sound dated. Give this a pass.
  • One of their better albums....

....certainly far better than the recent Autechre output. There is more feeling and soul to this than the merely robotic machine music of some of the albums. Still, I can respect and admire this for what it is, but never really feel the urge to put this on. Favorite Autechre track is either "Chatter" or "Basscadet (Beaumont Hannant Two Mix)", all early.

I'm new to Autechre and I have to say, this is the album I have enjoyed most of the ones I've listened to. The soundtrack to slowly slipping out of reality.

Autechre can sound either very relaxing or very edgy and rough. This album has more of the relaxing kind of Autechre, my favorite kind of Autechre, than it does the later (even though I think they do a good job with their rougher, edgier stuff, it's all just too uncomfortable for me to ever, personally, enjoy). The best ones from this are 'Nine', 'Slip', 'Silverside' and 'Yulquen', in my opinion; they're the ones I can get a nice dream out of, and isn't that the best kind of abient music? The album cover sets the mood nicely: A sandy, pink landscape without people; a nice little escape from the rest of the world, all told through these otherwise rough sounding electronics.

Very good ambient electronica. Not my favorite though. There are others out there that truely can take you places. Check out Alio Die or Carbonbased Lifeforms for total immersion. Did not like song #4, Slip. Too peppy for me.
