I've owned this album for several years and can't get enough of it. "Hammers and Strings" might be my favorite song, followed by Caves. This is at times a very deep album, as much of the content centers on Andrew's fight with cancer. Must have album for the genre.
  • stop comparing his albums to each other!

have you not seen his documentary? It pretty much explains why and how his music took a turn.. and in my opinion it's REAL and GENUINE!!! He is a true artist that is revealing himself and speaking lyrics of real life experiences. I personally love all of his music, every album that he has created is just amazing.. He is and always will be my favorite artist, no matter where he takes his music. In all honestly everything he does is so genuine, how can you not respect it? Anyway I love Andrew and find him brilliant! Can't wait for more music from him :D and to see him play live again.

There's something about Andrew McMahon that screams "permenant". There's something about him that deserves to be sent straight to the hall of fame, into the stack of classics. Both of his bands are incredible in different ways. With Jack's Mannequin, it's like watching him grow from album to album. I have complete and utter respect for this man. McMahon is truely talented, I can say that with every bone in my body. Released on my birthday, I was automatically drawn to this album. I was already a huge fan of Something Corporate, so I wanted to explore the vast world of Andrew McMahon. The title, "The Glass Passenger" is simply gripping and story telling. McMahon has been through more than you know, and lives to tell through touching, spine-tingling, beautiful imagery lyrics, especially in "The Glass Passenger". Through his graceful, creative fingers to the keys of the piano, the two are simply meant to be together. McMahon does piano right. I've never felt so connected with an instrument that I don't play before I heard Jack's Mannequin for the first time. "The Glass Passenger" tells stories of battles and recoveries with himself, mainly "Swim" and "The Resolution", and the images that he misses and recorded in his mind, such as "What Gets You Off' and "Bloodshot". From the dark punk rock clubs of a thousand American towns, to the vast blue ocean, he simply keeps you tugged along on a string, pulling you along with the wanting for more of that open and exploring feeling you get from his music. But if you want ballads, there's no better place than this album. "Hammers And Strings" and "Caves" are by far one of the most beautiful and enrapturing piano ballads I have ever heard. They both tell such deep stories that tug at your heart strings. They've been imprinted in my top music log for years. This album is beyond incredible. If you're looking for enrapturing story lines and lyrical work, take a visit with Jack's Mannequin. I can guarantee you, you won't regret it. Keep swimming. This is, simply put, a masterpiece. The lyrics, instrumentals, and vocals make this album, truly, one of a kind. So many artists, these days, are on the track to perpetual unoriginality, but certainly not the musical genius, Andrew McMahon. As someone who appreciates words very much, these lyrics are fantastic and read like poetry! I could literally sit down and read his lyrics for hours- I wouldn't even need music! This is not to say that the music isn't spectacular, because it truly is! Honestly, though, the lyrics are so thought-provoking in their use of metaphors (Caves, Resolution, etc.) and his unique way of making a simple thought so beautiful and complex. Cancer is, clearly, a difficult issue to speak about, but Andrew McMahon does a beautiful job of articulating his struggle and victory over the disease. Andrew, you are truly a role model for all of us! I have absolutely no doubt that you have inspired so many people, I being one of the many. I'd be lying if I said that I have just one favorite on this album, because I actually have quite a few, for different reasons. 1. Crashin'- What a wonderful way to begin an album! The piano is wonderful and I love the lyrics. "I wanna hear some music" and I certainly was not let down by Andrew and this CD in its entirety. 2. Spinning-I love the instrumentals on this one! 3. Swim- This has to be one of the most inspirational pieces of music that I have ever heard in my life. 4. American Love- It really is a great song! 7. Annie, Use Your Telescope- I love when he layers his own voice. The piano, in its simplicity, is great! 9. Drop Out- The So Unknown- This is probably one of my favorites of all time from Jack's Mannequin, 10. Hammers and Strings- Simple, beautiful, great lyrics....wonderful! 11. The Resolution- This is another very inspirational piece with fantastic lyrics and piano! 13. Caves- AMAZING. I do not even know how to articulate just how much I love this song. The contrast between the two movements is so awesome! The emotion behind this song is completely breathtaking. 14. Miss California- This is such a great song! Well, I guess that's all I can really say about this album. Andrew, you truly blow me away.

This album is so amazing from start to finish. The song "Caves" is quite possibly the best Jack's Mannequin song ever written and should be considered Jack's "Konstantine"
