Album begins with ripped-off Neil Young rythm from "Down By The River." I suppose if you're going to steal a rythm steal a good one. That song's rythm changes after a while and becomes pretty good; there was no need to revisit Young's rythm. "Low Man" and I've Known for Long" are good examples of the potential this band has, but I was disappointed to see their new September 2009 album 'The Broken Side' has 2 of the same songs from this album: the Neil Young rip-off and 'Old Man Chicago," the latter of which isn't anything special. I still think they have potential to come out with a masterpiece, but for now just a couple songs on this album and the new one worth listening to a few times or more.

This is such a great album, otherworldly and haunting, yet catchy enough that it's stuck in my head ALL the time....Nice instrumentation, interesting choice of effects and placement in the mix, as well as great song writing....they have found a nice balance between dissonance and consonance, and complexity and simplicity.

Its a good album and i like the guy, but they singing is not so good. He needs to hit the pitches better especially on that song that is #1 for him. But i like the words and the music so I'll give him a good 3/3.5
  • Great live band!

This is a really good album. I've got to say that it doesn't quite capture the essence of the power of this band live. You would not mistake them for country. Like someone mentioned before they kinda have a blind melon sound. Great guitars and very polished. I hope they get some new music here on Itunes.

I picked this album up a couple of months ago. I fell in love with the title track right away and the others proved to be just as good, if not better. They have a really unique sound to them I wasn't expecting. I'd pick this up for the price it's at now before it goes up, aparently they are play at a few festivals this summer and sure to gain a little more notarity.

Solid album the whole way through. After hearing only a few seconds of Low Man in Californication (a fantastic show) I sought out the song, which is my favorite off the album. From there I found all the other tracks and there's not a single bad one.

quibbles about which genre alberta cross belong to aside, this is hands down the best record i've heard in years. a true work of art. i am one to constantly be on the move with my current favorite records, each one usually only lasting a month or so. but the thief and the heartbreaker has stayed way in the lead of most played records in my library for about nine months now. and it's still getting better with each listen. absolutely no complaints from me, except that their full length doesn't come out till something like april '09.

This is in no way country-they have a blind melon sound, and I love them. Unique vocals, with a great overall sound. It's an indie-rock n' roll vibe, and they pull it off splendidly. Check out I've Known for Long. Definitely worth listening to!
