Ween may not take their image quite seriously, but when it comes to their music they are the most serious of craftsmen; blurring the edge of parody, homage, and in the end sometimes creating better music than the objects of their affection (or derision). White Pepper is easily the most approachable Ween album. However, you never get their lyrics confused with Top 40 radio. The greatest thing about White Pepper is that even when you know what artist or mood they are in, the music holds up on its own. For instance with "Banana's & Blow", Jimmy Buffet could not write a better "Jimmy Buffett" song. What makes this release special is that you can tell the Dean and Gene have mellowed a bit. "She's my Baby" is as simply beautiful as a love song can get; as is "Stay Forever". Ween have earned the right to put songs like "Even If you Don't" on their records, which are unabashedly pop and at times brilliant. Never to worry, Ween hasn't lost their creative edge at all (See:The Grobe), they can take you further in one album than most bands (I'm looking at you Nickleback) can take you in their entire career. They never take chances for the sake of a cheap laugh, their directions are clever in this world of controlled craziness. Get this album

meatllica maniac is a douche. if dont have anything intelligent to say about the album then why say any thing at all. from until forever whenever i review an album on itunes my handle will be metallicamaniacisadouche. as for "white pepper" its not my favorite ween album but does have few of my favorite ween songs. "bannanas and blow"and "stay for ever" are on my top ten.

    1. Ween is one of the greatest bands ever 2. White Pepper is there most approchable albums, yet still amazing 3. Metallica manaic55 listens to avenge sevenfold ergo he is a huge tool, so nobody take his review seriously

White Pepper is not as "in your face" silly as many of the other ween albums are. It is probably the most user friendly of their albums. A great listen.
  • Almost a Favorite....

...but not quite. However, that doesn't mean I don't love this album! From "Exactly Where I'm At" to "She's Your Baby", this is a true gem. If you hate or love Ween, (or just in between), go right ahead and get this album, 'cause you will cry yourself to sleep each night after hearing the wonders of Ween.

MetallicaManiac55,(or whatever your name is(i can use parenthases improperly too!)), you are a moron. If you think Metallica is the hieght of music then you need buy a ticket to fly far far away from 1991 when their last good album was released. This album is great. Its eclectic and varied. The song Stroker Ace is a great song to start a road trip. It sets a great mood. Please, someone, vote this review up so that the moron MetallicaManiac's review is taken off the front page.

With songs like Flutes of Chi and The Grobe, White Pepper is easily one of my favorite Ween albums. Given there odd style, Ween never seems to get old with there endless genres and styles.
