  • Jazziest Dark Star Jam

I know I don’t look it, but I’ve been a Dark Star guy since '69 or '70. I’m also a jazz fan. Maybe that’s what I love about the song anyway. But this is the jazziest. And not just doodling around either. Reminds me a bit of Low Spark of High Heeled Shoes.
  • Maybe my top DP

I have 34 of the 36 DPs. After the opening Dew, two or three songs are flat, and it fakes you out, but becomes fantastic a third of the way in. Bests: the Mississippi h.s.t.!!!! dark star jam, Stella Blue, Eyes!!!!, fantastic Sunshine, and two mind-bending Morning Dews that, the two together, are worth the price of the whole thing. I think the first Dew is my favorite ever. This is well worth it and has become one of my top DP. It’s funny. I bought this on cd before I started collecting all of them. Beginners luck. It’s really subtle and good.
  • Intricate and mellow

The band is in a nice mellow groove here. You can hear and appreciate all the inner textures that makes the Dead of this period so special. Keith and Bobby are a joy to hear and are up front in the mix. I go back to listening to these shows a lot. Highly recommended
  • Get it for the Space>Mind Left Body Jam alone

This is one of those amazing shows where the Dead just make your brain completely explode in a unique way that they never did before and never did again. Not only are all the regular songs good, with excellent Weather Reports, Here Comes Sunshine, and He's Gone, but at the end of disc 2.... Playing in the Band > Space > Mind Left Body Jam > Blues Jam > He's Gone ...This. When I first listened, and EVERY time thereafter, my soul burst into flames and suddenly the entire universe was terribly tired and sad but extremely beautiful and fresh all anew. No drugs involved! Get this now, you owe it to yourself. P.S. There is an AUD of this up on Internet archive. It's really a toss up. The AUD has better echo, but more crowd noise. This has less echo, but also less crowd noise. Me, I got both so I can choose depending on my mood :)
  • As a whole, Excellent Pick

The First Morning Dew throuh the first playin' has a faint guitar track in them which is a big shame because otherwise this is an excellent 1st set. From Here comes sunshine on this is a very good pick. Difinaly worht your money if you like the dead at all. DPs 28, 19 are where you should go first if you like '73. It is hard to pick high points but one of them is the Here Comes Sunshine (which is beaitiful) followed by WPS> DS jam>Eyes. The whole last set is very good with an intersting Jam thrown in there. Pick this pick!
  • good late '73 w/o donna jean

hilites of the late november/ early december boston run; neither complete show is presented. donna is on maturnity leave and its kinda nice to not hear her. i think the main reason dick picked this is for the playin>mlb in the second show; it is good but personally i would have like to see 12/6/73 from a week later released instead of this. get it for both weather reports (especially 12/2), dire wolf, tleo, truckin', cold rain, sunshine and the great little mellow dark star jam on disc two.
