I have been a fan since Naveed and that will always be my favorite album. I remember being upset when Clumsy came out that I thought they had changed their sound and fell in love with Happiness and mixed reviews of Spiritual and then Gravity and Healthy really took me to the limits as a fan but I have and always will stand by OLP as one of their oldest and biggest fans. Looking back now I feel that I love every album strong or weak, that are all an essential album documenting the development of the band over the years. I have really enjoyed The Burn album more so than the previous two albums and I thank OLP for working so hard to make this special album. I feel this one is for us fans with such great songs as "monkey brains", "paper moon" and "right stuff" and "escape artist". The riff alone in monkey brains just screams rawness. I saw OLP on the Spiritual tour, Gravity tour, and this Past tour for Burn and every time they bring for the fans. They played "denied" on the Burn tour, my favorite OLP track. Thanks OLP on the eve of the release of the new single "Heavyweight" and I can not wait to hear album 8 and hopefully many more! You guys really keep the hope of great music alive!

I know a lot of people were disappointed in this album, but I have to disagree - I think it's a very good one, even if it's not like their others. Gravity was a lot different than their older music and this is closer to that, but honestly, I love everything OLP puts out and I think this is a great buy!

I was listening to some old OLP so I hoped that I could find some new songs... this album was sadly a let down. It just doesn't have the emotion of the previous albums. OLP's songs have always envoked SUCH emotion in me, but other than "Paper Moon" I thought this album was flat. I really felt like they were just singing to be singing. I guess their earlier "Thief" will just remain my favorite song for now. :)
  • Please come back, Mike Turner!

Really, this is supposed to be an 'adult Naveed?' The album is not terrible, but it sounds like a rip-off of U2 and Coldplay. OLP should consider changing their name to the 'Raine Maida Project.' OLP lost their way when Turner left the band.

I've seen a lot of hate for this album. I too grew up listening to the great albums of OLP's past. Spiritual Machines, Happiness and Naveed will forever be in my rotation. Spiritual Machines may be my favorite disk, period. Most are correct, this album is not those albums. But, like the band (and hopefully everyone else) we all grow up. Sensibilities and tastes change. Looking at the album for what it is, its great. I will admit that it took a while to grow on me. I was under the illusion that I could download it and immediately listen to the next Julia, Lying Awake and perhaps hear Ray Kurzwiel introduce the next step in the evolution of the album. That's not what we have here. But, what we do have, is an excellent album. Well done. Further random perspective: I didn't like Gravity and Healthy; Mike Turner was 35% of the band, the rest being 45% Raine and 20% Duncan. Quote this for truth.
  • I love this band!

I really do! I fell in love when I saw them perform "The End Is Where We Begin" on BETA Records TV!

It is funny that when I first listened to the album I was sort of confused. It was good, it was great and it was bland all at once. Been a big fan and have been lucky enough to see them in concert way back opening for Van Halen then again this year. They have gone through some changes, but if you have been following the evolution of this band this is going in a good direction. It finally hit me..stop expecting the past. These track are great just different. Dreamland, Sign of Life, and my Favorite Paper Moon. Increddible and they rocked live. The Right Stuff is a bonus track that should have been on the album and a single. Buy it..listen to it...words are deep music is nice it is a good old fashioned rock record. Long Live OLP

Upon first listen to this record I didn't get it. Perhaps I was still glued to "Happiness..." That in my opinion was the top. I've got all of the albums and have watched them play many times. It was in the long drives in my car at night that I had the chance to listen to these tracks without interruption from the day's tasks. I get it now. This is an honest record and among one of my favorite albums of all time now. It's OLP now. It's their music, their way, right now. I'm glad I own it.

As a fan of OLP since Naveed I always go in with high hopes, unfortunatly this album is a disappointment. I am all for changing your sound and branching out, but this is just bad all around. Not only does it not sound like OLP in the least, its just not enjoyable to listen to.

First, I hate negative reviews based just on a band trying a new direction. For example, I recognize that "Healthy in Paranoid Times" was a departure for OLP, but I liked it. The band is maturing, and the album was different, but it still sounded like an evolution of OLP. Still OLP, just more refined. The same cannot be said for "Burn, Burn." This album is complete degeneration. The lyrics seem lazy and unoriginal. The music from OLP, which usually is driving and emotive, instead is formulaic and generic. Perfect example-listen to the bass line and the guitars layered over it. One of the things I love about OLP is the creative mix of a driving, fast bass with uneven, surprising guitar riffs. The music on this album, however, is slower and much less inventive. Man, I hate sounding like "that guy," but I can't hold back on this one. As a fan of OLP since "Naveed" first hit the stores, I have to recommend against buying this album. Let's hope the next go round is better.
