I'll admit I'm a huge Hips fan as I used to live in Chico, CA where they originated. That being said this is an album any Americana loving music fiend can get into too. Phenomenal song writing as always witht these guys and the ever steady roots rock they've so lovingly nourished over there career. If you don't get it the first time listen to it again. It WILL grow on you!

It's good but it could be better. White Falcon Fuzz saves the album in my opinion and that's why I gave it four stars.

OK. For the Hips fanatic this is a fantastic album. For the casual or interested party, this is still pretty great. Pacific Dust is very much a continuation of Kiss the Crystal Flake in terms of direction: Subtile and Mellow with some great rock thrown in for good measure. These guys are master songwriters and singers that used their many years together to craft another batch of friendly listening songs. They always seem to loose me a bit on their more soft rock orientated numbers such as "Are you Free", but more than make up for it with White Falcon Fuzz and Lion and the Bull. This record took a few listens to really set the hook with me. If you are looking for an introduction to the Hips, Check out Shootout, Part Timer goes full or Green Hills of Earth. If you are a fan, you will not be dissapointed..... pretty great.

OK - finally got my hands on this album after a long wait and I couldn't be more satisfied with the payoff. The Mother Hips are truly in rare form here. Its definitely my favorite rock album of the year and a must have for anyone who appreciates great songwriting and masterful musicianship. When I first heard the pre-release of White Falcon Fuzz, I thought it would definitely end up my personal favorite (its an epic song) but after a few listens I'm smack dab obsessed with the Pacific Dust - the title track... amazing. That said, nearly every song on this record is incredibly strong and their are truly no "throwaways" as you often find on other albums. If you know The Hips already - get this album - you will not be disappointed. And if you are new to the hips, its a perfect place to begin a great musical adventure with one of the truly great rock bands of our time. enjoy...

Aside from Pacific Dust being their personal opus, The Mother Hips have also produced the best rock album of the year. A wonderfully deep collection of songs Pacific Dust brings their immense talent and creative ability to the forefront. Absolutely stellar musical performances and delightful and devious lyrics make this album shine above the fray. With songs like Pacific Dust and Cheer Up Champ, the guys let the groove flow and as such have produced two of the heaviest 'Rock' songs of the year. Tim Bluhm's incredible attention to detail lies deep in his writing style and brings forth wonderfully complex visuals and soundscapes. And Greg Loiacono's All in Favor shows just how masterful a tailor of words and melodies he has become. A truly great album is one that grows on you with each listen. But also one that takes a few listens to really begin to appreciate. Pacific Dust is one of those rare vehicles. An album that has produces different favorite tune every spin and in my humble opinion is the best Rock album of the year. Pacific Dust is truly a great album by a truly great and seemingly unknown band.

Wow, just wow! This is one of the best albums that I have ever heard in my life, without a doubt. It feels like The Hips have finally perfectly captured their sound, and this album has me in it's grasp like nothing else has in a long time. It's such a lush and powerful album, from the brute force of John's drumming on "Third Floor Story" to the amazing pop harmony bliss of "Jess Oxox" to the literal conjuring of George Harrison's spirit on the solo from "One Way Out", this is an album of truly epic proportons. Buy this album if you want to fall in love with music all over again.
