Reviews

  • Strangely Addicting

I've never heard music so... reckless. The album sounds like an attempt to redefine structure, texture, and, sometimes even, tonality. Listening to it the first time was like listening to an entirely new genre. It is nothing like Radiohead, or Grizzly Bear, or bands Dirty Projectors is so easily compared to. It is not like Bitte Orca, but somehow connections still remain. I can't put my finger on it. The music is completely foreign yet curiously familiar.
  • Experimental, yet listenable

I prefer this over Dave's previous works such as The Glad Fact, etc. It's definitely artistic, but plays around with a central theme, Don Henley's dream. His singing style has improved considerably since the previous albums and the songs are so much more manageable while maintaining the experimental feel through use of unconventional parts like the drone/tenor sax/Dave trio in But in the Headlights and interesting chords like the marimba line in Tour Along the Potomac. Definitely check this out.
