This “album” lacks artistic creativity from such an incredible group of musicians. It’s a Phil Collins solo pop album that is musically and lyrically boring and should never be part of the Genesis catalog. I remember when this record came out.. I couldn’t wait for new Genesis material. I bought it new, took it home, listened to it once and sold it the very next day to the used record shop! If I had to pick one song on this album that is perhaps worth $1.29 it would be the last. Phil Collins was great when he cared about being a musician and not a pop star. Try “Three Sides Live” or go older to “Trick of the Tail.” Neither of those will disappoint. Invisible Touch should remain invisible for eternity.

My favorite Genesis record post Peter Gabriel is Wind and Wuthering. It was the last album with Steve Hackett. After this they come more commercials. Sure I like a lot of songs, but not a full album.

I love Phil Collins’ solo albums as much as anyone, but this album with the band all together have created some masterpieces like Invisible Touch, Land of Confusion, and Tonight, Tonight, Tonight. Awesome album and it’s nice to hear it remastered!

At one point I would have given this album three stars but now I give it a 2. It is one of just three Genesis albums I never listen to anymore, and with good reason(s). The production, with it’s electronic drums and drum machines and ugly synthesizers, is very messy and very 80’s and horribly dated. And song wise, this is Genesis at their most pop oriented. Even the long songs are very poppy. The cover is one of their worst. And I no longer liked Phil Collins as a singer at this point. All of that being said, there are about three decent songs here, Land Of Confusion, Throwing It All Away and the weird instrumental The Brazilian. The video for Land is terrific. And at one point, I actually kind of liked the title track and In Too Deep. These good things however, don’t make up for the bad things and make it so I can not recommend the album. Where’s Harold The Barrel, The Giant Hogweed and Rael when you need them?
  • Awesome album!

Glad for the band that they got to number one with this but the album does not hold up with the exception of In too Deep, Domino, Brazilian, and Land of Confusion.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
