Reviews

  • Beyond amazing! (Excuse even more hyperbole)

How is it that this phenomenal album only has three other reviews in the last 8 months?! This is the kind of album you listen to once through and then immediately start from the beginning. Beautiful harmonies, thoughtful lyrics, and performances that range from heartbreakingly tender ("From The Boy In Me" and "All Away") to downright rockin' ("You Were Everything" and "So Bad (It Feels So Good)"). It's amazing that five guys can produce this kind of sound. As another review stated, there are effects put on the voices (and maybe even a little pitch correct here and there), but let me assure you that these guys are the real deal. If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing these guys live, I HIGHLY recommend it. I brought my 58 year old father and 23 year old sister to a show in Woodland, CA a year back and all three of us were completely floored. The attention to detail and the musicianship is top notch. I've been a fan for years but this may be my favorite album. If you had to pick one, PICK THIS ONE. If you had to pick two, check out "Drive" for some amazing live performances and some awesome covers.
  • Calling it "a great a cappella album" is damning with faint praise

It's a great album, period. The House Jacks raise their already lofty bar several notches with this offering. I would rate as the best a cappella album I've ever heard for certain, and one of the best I've ever heard across all genres. Play this for listeners unfamiliar with contemporary a cappella, and many would never guess there are no instruments being used. There are simply no weak links here. Your music collection is simply not adequate if this brilliant album isn't in it.

Regardless of whether or not you are a fan of a cappella music, you need this album in your collection. The production is mind-bending, the arrangements are stellar, and the songs are addictive - I don't think there is a better a cappella rock album out there. Download it. Now.
  • Some of the finest songwriting you will ever encounter.

This is some of the best songwriting that has ever come to not only a cappella, but to any style of music. Most people will likely comment on the incredible sound found on this record, which is definitely a formidable milestone. But to me, the biggest strength is found in what lies in the words, and the emotions carried by the backing music behind them.
