Ummm... Watt, The Minutemen, firehose, et.al. were never what you'd call nihilistic. Associating nihilism with punk is to miss the point of the man's (and many, many, other's) music. Way of thought, that thought being in it's simplest terms, "I'm doing what I want, the way I want, I'm not gettin' in yer box." Kinda the opposite of nihilism, actually. Not that there isn't nihilistic punk, It's just that trying to define the whole field with one philosophical word is really missing the point. Awesome record.
  • A masterpiece in every way

This is a luminous example of what can happen when punk grows up and its nihilism is overcome. Introspective, fragmented but bonded, tight, close, rich sounding, like Coltrane and Coleman in Converse, words like goads and triggers, in confrontational contemplation. It’s a deep, daring, and human engagement with the scary creatures begging for attention within.
