  • Seriously?

We must be in a dry patch for Duncan, I can't believe the man who let loose 'Daylight' in 2003 put out this elevator music. Maybe he is in his yoga/meditation phase...
  • Conduit of Energy

There is no other artist on this planet who has been able to walk with a higher power. Duncan has been a conduit for that energy to travel to us through his music. He is authentic and in the moment. I know this to be factual as I have been blessed to have face to face interaction with him. His work is something every person on earth should own. His work makes us all want to be better beings.

I have always loved Duncan's sense of instrumentation and atmospherics. He's truly one of the more gifted artists I've heard in a long while. The 80's covers here are just sublime. He's not just redoing them, he's refurbishing them and giving them depth that some never had. I love each song, but SO ALIVE and SHOUT really do stand out because they were among my favorites back then. Sheik, to me, is a true artist--cut from the cloth of originality and creativity. It's a shame more people lack an awareness of his work as he's written so many beautiful melodies and has a strong voice. But this set of tunes showcases his abilty to arrange a song and he provides so many layers for your ears to enjoy. He's a true gift and I hope the next chapter in his career bring more attention to his wonderful gifts.
  • New to the tunes? You're more than welcome.

Even if you're new to the majority of the fringe-hits on the album, which stems from a 5-song EP that is also included on the LP (Stay, Kyoto Song, Shout, What is Love, and Stripped), Duncan's take on the pop/new wave tunes will provide you a wonderful introduction to the era.
  • Great, with a warning to "Gen X" survivors

Duncan is a great song stylist here, giving most of these old tunes his usual low-key reinterpretation. Hearing them stripped of their sometimes-overloaded original production is a joy. I put it on without really thinking about it, but was suddenly thrown into a kind of nostalgic fugue. So, that's my warning; these songs will creep up on you and you should brace yourself for a few genuine tears. Let's hope he's playing a few of these for his friends in rehab!

What Duncan has done to these songs (many of which were my favorites back in the day when I was an aqua-netted, clove cigarette smoking, Cure and Siouxsie-loving batcaver) is nothing short of brilliant. Duncan Sheik is far and away one of the best singer-songwriters out there.

No words can be said about how great an artist Duncan is that would suffice a worthy definition of his brilliance. He makes music that makes you feel. We played his version of "Ghost In You" at our wedding in Las Vegas 2 years ago and it was the perfect song for a perfect moment in my life. Thank you Duncan.

This album is a more than just covers: it's about making cult classics anew, as they were never heard before. Sheik infuses these songs with his own bardo-trobadour pazazz. He appropriates these songs with mastery.

Always a sceptic of covers, but he really put the time into making these his. I really like this a lot! Favs so far are "Ghost in You", "What is Love< "Hold Me Now", "Stripped" & "Shout".
