The first time I heard Harlan County Line on Outlaw, I instantly fell in love with the sound. Little did i know after purchasing the whole album that every song here was going to be gold. Im now a lifetime Dave Alvin fan, i think i've listened to the album at least 20 times over and Black Rose of Texas 50 times more. It makes me feel so good to know that real music from the heart isn't dead yet, its just hard to find. This is true american music at its best!

Love Dave Alvin, but Johnny Ace still records with Cathy Lemons, check them out!
  • Orgasmic? My ears say yes.

My body girates to the rythm of a mustached guitar god as I soil my wranglers in fit of joy. The mid section of my wranglers buldges with each chord bend and strum of Uncle Daves guitar. Wonderful noises abound on this one "Eleven Eleven" and any fan of roots based blues county outlaw stories of the road music will agree. A true jem in a landfill of feces.

What a great cd! I saw Dave at the Kessler Theatre in Dallas last Thursday night and he was absolutely incredible. Anyone who says they don't make good music anymore hasn't listened to him. Dave is literate and he ROCKS.

With “Eleven Eleven” Dave Alvin gets back to his rockin’ roots. Dave plays the “loud type of folk music” on this album which includes a tribute to Chris Gaffney (Run Conejo Run), a tribute to Amy Farris (Black Rose of Texas), a duet with his brother Phil (What’s Up With Your Brother?) and the last recording Dave did with his best friend Chris Gaffney before Gaffney’s death (Two Lucky Bums). This album deserves a sky full of stars. Buy it!

Dave Alvin is an "undiscovered" genius and leader of American music - as much as a Grammy winner can be undiscovered. His lyrics are striking and REAL - easy to understand what this man is singing about. For me, it's his playing that puts him apart from the crowd. Like Miles Davis, Keith Richards, Hubert Sumlin, this guy just knows when and what to play. He's not playing a million notes. It's almost more like how he's playing the air in between his guitar notes that makes this music so rewarding and haunting. I enjoy every one of his records, but I must say this one is mixed and recorded so well - the seperation and depth are so sweet. Highly recommended.

I first heard of Dave Alvin by catching a snippet of 'Harlan County Line" on the FX show 'Justified'. Once I dialed in on him, I was hooked. This album is an awsome showcase of his talent. The music, lyrics and voice are like none other. I can't wait to see him live! I would definitely recommend buying this entire album - it is destined to be a classic...

I had no idea they still made music like this! It stirs the blood as well as easing the mind.
