A must have for any brass lover. This album puts on full display the excellence of this legendary group - intonation, musicality, phrasing, dynamics, power. They are phenomenal! Love this group!

If you're a brass player sooner or later you will learn that all roads to the best orchestral sound are to and from Chicago and the incredible legacy and almost a religion as initiated by Arnold Jacobs. If you're a horn player welcome to concept that the instrument is made of brass. Like Bud Herseth, Dale Clevenger is a god of his instrument. I thank people like Joseph Kreines for showing me the path to Valhalla at a reasonbly early age. Now if I could only spell. Win Hinkle of Boston and Central FL.

People who buy brass recordings know they won't be wasting money if they buy a CSO recording before previewing. They've been pretty consistent for the last 50 years. Great job!

I don't know who "Mr. Boolez" is, but he obviously does not know as much as he thinks he does. This recording is brass playing perfection in EVERY sense of the word. Tone, Intonation, and Technique all are at their best on this LIVE recording!

Great playing. Wonderful music. I would suggest that the reviewer who found intonation issues is perhaps unfamiliar with some of the works (there are some harshly-written parts in the Prokofiev, for example). Or, he may have far better ears than I. I hope the live Resound brass album will become the tradition the winter brass concert has become. Thanks to all involved.

I think every high school and college brass instructor would benefit by having this recording available for their students. It's a veritable clinic on how to produce beautiful, controlled tone quality, blend, balance and focused sound at all dynamic levels. The CSO brass are famous for their ability to peel the paint off the walls, but in my opinion, their ability to play pianissimo passages and still 'sing' is what places them in the top shelf of orchestral brass. Interestingly, some of the same CSO players who played on the legendary 1968 Gabrielli recording are also on this session; and they are true masters of their craft!

I have anticipated this release for months and am so glad it is it here. This is beautiful brass playing! The one negative review I read said there were intonation/rhythmic problems. I have listened to the entire performance all the way through almost twice now and have not noticed any noticeable intonation or rhythmic problems. In fact its the opposite - the intonation and rhythmic integrity of the CSO brass is quite impressive. One of the most impressive parts of this performance is the musicality of this brass section - the phrasing in the lyrical sections of Lincolnshire Posy is just gorgeous.

Vienna they're not, but they're a close second or third. The live recording failed to catch them at their best. Plagued with intonation and rhythm problems, the works fail to bolster the groups reputation. Perhaps they had an off night. No one bats 1,000. -Bz
