Randy Newman is a gift to our generation. His wit and talent transcends his "voice".
  • Very nice intimate live album

Is Randy in good voice? No. But when is he? Between he and Tom Waits, you would never think either would make a living as a singer. But combine the singing with the song writing, and you have magic. This is a real nice intimate live recording. I love the moments when he speaks to the audience and throws a quick explanation as to what drove him to write the song. I wished for more. I can't stand it when an artist just plays his set and walks off without really connecting with the audience. It's missing a few of his "hits" but so what. It's a very nice live album and one I know will get quite a bit of play in my CD player.

Great set, great music, interesting all around BUT he's not in "good voice" believe it or not. It sounds like he's got a bad cold or something. Doesn't matter - congested or not he's a genius.

These are a bunch of Newman's biggest and best, done at a time in his life where he is 'stretching out' and enjoying what might be his last big tour, showcasing the songs that covered the years. When Ray sings Ray, its great! Same applies to Randy-NO ONE covers these, because they generally CAN'T! The "A" list, by the "A" artist. I'm happy. Thanks Randy.

His terrible voice makes me think of awful Steve Martin family films!

Not the greatest recording, and certainly not Newman's best arrangements of these songs but I like the honesty in his voice now that he is a few years/decades older. His weathered voice cracks quite a bit more nowadays, but it also makes songs like Marie and Think it's Going to Rain have an extra bit of emotional bite.
  • Good Album to add to your collection

You'll laugh at Short People, and be moved by Louisiana 1927. Great Album by a talented songwriter.
