I can't believe I'm just now hearing about her! I heard a snippet of 'Already Gone' on a MTV show. It just stuck in my head. So, I dowloaded it. I ended up playing it all the time, so I finally got the whole album. This girl is a GEM! I wish more people knew about her. I'm so impressed, I'll certainly be spreading the word! I never thought I'd be saying this, but thanks MTV! lol
  • You could be a Pirate or you could buy it. (See what I did there?)

Lemme tell you something about this album. It's amazing. Every single track. From the hard hitting "Love For Long" and "Pirates" til the soul crushing sadness of "So Long" shines in it's own perfect way. I really though Transmitter Failure (Her last effort) was perfect. Then along comes Unwavering Band of Light. You should really only buy this though if you're into fantastic music and perfect songs.

I get worried that a new album will never be as good as the previous album, but this is not the case. This is a great album with amazing sound & lyrics. Highly recommended.
  • One of the top albums of the year

"An Unwavering Band of Light" is the third full-length album from Jenny Owen Youngs. If "Batten the Hatches" was girl-with-a-guitar and "Transmitter Failure" was girl-with-a-band then "An Unwavering Band of Light" is woman-unleashed (musically speaking). JOY has grown up, and so has her music. This album is her first independent release after having her first two albums backed by Nettwerk. "An Unwavering Band of Light" is one of the best albums you will hear period, indie or major label backed. The Brooklyn, NY based Youngs and producer Dan Romer have created an 11-track masterpiece. No two songs are alike, and she transitions with ease from the infectious upbeat "Love for Long" to the incredibly sad "So Long". Her trademark upbeat melody paired with gut-wrenching lyrics returns for several tracks including "Pirates" in which she sings "I'll keep coming back; Numb's no good; but it sure beats the hurt". On "Two By Two" she sings of the Dante-esque quest of rescuing a loved one from Hell. JOY's considerable vocal talents shine through on "Already Gone" and on "Wake Up" On the latter Youngs' sings "Swear that I won't ever be; Just a flash or memory". If she continues to produce music like this, no one will ever be able to forget her.

God I love this album...check out Your Apartment, Pirates and So Long...some of my favorites. And go see Jenny live - she rocks so hard, and she's hysterically funny too.

This album still has Jenny's musical style but with a touch of maturity in it. I love it and I reget missing out on the kickstarter program for it, but now I can get it! I can't wait to jam out to it while walking around my college campus!
