Reminds me of prison music and rape music.
- Terrific album, bad production

This sophomore album by As I Lay Dying should be considered in effect their actual debut, as many ideas here would get expanded upon later for full effect. The material is consistently strong even if it isn’t particularly original and Tim Lambesis improves as a vocalist. However, that doesn’t excuse the terrible production. The kick pedal and snare sound like they were recorded in a neighborhood garage with a Fisher Price recording instrument and the vocal production leaves much to be desired. 10/10 for the music, 1/10 for the production.

This is one of my personal favorite As I Lay Dying albums. This album has a great flow, track after track. Also great drum solos, and guitar solos as well. Finally, the instruments wrap around the vocals like no other, and intertwine perfectly creating a perfect album.
- Impressive

I don't like it... I know you hardcore fans find meaning, but all the excuses for meanings I've read are just underthought and ridiculous. I listen to some heavy stuff, like Slipknot and so on. But frankly this is just senseless assorted screaming with some decent background instrumentals. Like the instrument sounds, not the "lyrics".

The vocals are too splatty. Too much of that. However, his vocals are SO much better from "An Ocean Between Us" to the present. But on this album, it's covering up everything else.
