I love this song. I had the album thirty years ago and have been looking through her albums for quite a while trying to find this song. It was difficult because of what it's called. Emmylou lets it wail on this fast pace bluegrass song. I love the story about an old time family having to leave the state because it has gotten crowded. Everything is relative and a hundred years ago a church built in town spelled the beginning of the end. Emmylou has always been one of my favorite singers and I can listen to this song ten times in a row.

This is undoubtedly my favorite Emmylou studio album. The most introspective and mature songwriting mixed with the most powerful emotions of the soul. This is good music even if you do not like country music. This album transcends all genres and feeds the emotional soul. She close out Hardly Strictly Bluegrass every year in SF and I never miss it!

I have been listening to Emmylou since I was 13, and am now 39. Even though shes changed her style some from this album, her voice remains the same, and I still look forward to each new album or song she produces. This one is a classic goodie. My favorite here is 'Defying Gravity'. Excellent.
  • Lovely!

This has songs you should already know and love and then some you're probaly less familiar with. I would say the songs you NEED from this album would be: Easy From now on, Two More bottles of wine, I aint liveing long like this, Burn that candle, New Cut road (Live) is greaaat!! and LaCassine Special (even though it's in french... it's great to listen to.) the rest are oki, but not as great as the rest..
  • Some really good music here

While not my favorite Emmylou album, definitely in the top 5. You should already know Easy From Now On, Two More Bottles Of Wine, and To Daddy. Digging deeper you'll find a great duet with Willie Nelson on One Paper Kid, a cover of Rodney Crowell's Ain't Living Long Like This (Emmylou rocks out!), + Leaving Louisiana In The Broad Daylight. Nice listening!
