Death of a Sun

Wow I gotta say I'm really disapointed with Syrian's latest work. De-Synchronized & Kosmonauta were amazing albums that had an almost epic feel to them. But all these new songs just seems beneathe them.

This is one of the best synth pop albums of the year so year. Unlike the previous reviewer I think the melodic 80's inspired approach works perfectly. And when I say 80s inspired I specifically mean Italo Disco (not surprising given they are Italian). "In The End" sounds like an Il Discotto record from 1983 (for those in the know that's a HUGE compliment). So many great tracks it's hard to pick favorites but the majestic sweeping "We Fade Away" gets better with every listen. Highly Recommend to all synth pop and Italo fans.

Definitely striving for an 80's ideal. So far "Death of a Sun" has provided lush sounds and melodies for my ears. Good stuff! Although maybe at times it seems they take the 80's sound ideas a bit too far. I'll admit I miss the techno "toughness" of previous Syrian albums. That coupled with what seems like semi-uninspired lyrics (too many verses end with "in the night") makes "Death of a Sun" a welcome back but not necessarily a leap forward for the band. Overall though Syrian is still a great contemporary synthpop band and this album doesn't disappoint. Tracks 1 & 4 seem to be my favorite.
