If you like Gordon from his radio hits like “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown,” and “Edmund Fitzgerald,” this set will be like a Sinatra fan discovering his early Columbia sides. You probably won’t know any of these songs, but they are uniformly great. Most just feature Gordon strumming an acoustic guitar and singing. This set comprises his first 4 full albums in their entirety. It is a wonderful listen from start to finish. The 4 albums are “Lightfoot,” “The Way I Feel,” “Did She Mention My Name,” and “Back Here on Earth.” Highly recommended, you will be kicking yourself for not discovering these songs many years ago. A few of these songs became famous later by other artists, such as “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” (Roberta Flack) and “Me and Bobby McGee” (Janis Joplin). Gord didn’t write these, he just sang them way before they were famous.

Great Album! I can't say I have all of his albums but quite a few. There was an album released and I have it on a terrible sounding cassette titled Gordon Lightfoot The UA Years Volume II. On this album is a shipwreck song, Ballad Of The Yarmouth Castle, a favorite for years. It's similar to Edmund Fitzgerald, but a different story. Last night I looked up the Castle on Wikipedia. As Gordon sings, it was indeed " Too old to be sailed." Wish I cold get my hands on that CD

If you like Gordon Lightfoot and want to hear some of his earlier works, this is the album for you. I had already owned Gord's Gold Volumes 1 and 2 for many years, but this album showcases his earlier career. I had never heard most of these songs before but I knew from the first few strums of his guitar that I had found some new favorites. Even though some of these songs appear on his "Gold" albums, they are not the same versions. I actually prefer these versions as they are closer to an acoustic type of recording, as opposed to the more embellished versions that appear on the "Gold" albums. I highly recommend this album!
