  • Great Album

God, this has it all - great songs, fun production, great playing and vocals. She’s a goddess. It will disappoint on better speakers - way way too compressed such that you can hear the whole recording ride up and down with the vocals, and her voice is squashed to the point she starts sounding like Bonnie Raitt, but OH MAN, this is a fabulous record. Easy on the compressor next time, Nicole!

I am embarrassed to say I never heard of Nicole Atkins until checked out "Who Killed the Moonlight" because it was on the RS playlist. After hearing the entire album; I am blown away. I love this album, it flows well, the vibe is smooth and fresh. The lady can SING! "Girl You Look Amazing" is one of my favorites , "Sin Song" makes me chuckle

I keep trying to figure out which song is best and keep changing my mind. Each song is like opening a gift that has another gift inside. Her voice is like liquid silk at times and the strong as steel at others.

It's no surprise to me how great the "SlowPhaser" album is. Nicole Atkins is my favorite singer. If you haven't heard her, listen to a few samples to hear for yourself. You'll love them and will want to buy the album. After the first track "Who Killed the Moonlight" kicked my butt upon first listen, I was totally thrown by the incredible sound of the second song, "It's Only Chemistry." (My favorite on this album.) I love taking a trip back in time to the 70s with the disco-sounding "Girl You Look Amazing." (Sorry, but I refuse to where platform shoes for this or any song.) Once you enjoy the smooth sound of "Cool People" and "We Wait too Long," get ready for a stretch of power tunes "Red Ropes," "What Do You Know?," with a wonderful transition to one of Nicole's best songs, "Gasoline Bride." I can go on and explain why every song is so unique and spectacular in their own way, but you'll need to listen them yourself to really understand. Oh, by the way, "Above as Below" is a sweet-sounding way to end the album. After it's done, you'll want to go back to the beginning and listen to it all over again.
  • Her best album

Another fantastic album from Nicole, easily her best to date. Reconnecting with Tore Johansson was a smart move, and the songs here showcase a wide variety of textures. The initial single “Girl, You Look Amazing” is the catchiest song of the year, and “Red Ropes” is a slinky foray into darkness. Top to bottom, great songwriting, and as always, that voice!

Let's just get this out of the way first: Nicole Atkins has one of the most amazing and strong voices in music today. Hands down. No need to try to counter that statement. You won't win the argument. She just does. It's a shame more people aren't familiar with her music. She really deserves to be heard. That being said, I really didn't expect to go come away from her new album thinking it was her best effort yet. But it is. This is the best she's ever sounded on record. The song writing and selection compliments her voice perfectly. She's really hitting on all cylinders here. Do your favor pick this album up. You'll be glad you did.
