  • They should separate the medleys

I’m a die-hard Miami Vice fan - I have this on CD and decided to get it on iTunes for my iPhone 11. The one bonus is the track South Beach, which isn’t on CD. The only pet peeve I have is the medleys - they’re separate tracks on the CD version. I don’t get why they did that, considering you have to buy the entire album to get them anyway. Why not make them separate tracks on the iTunes version? Now I have to skip through “Flashback” to hear the other two songs on the first medley.

Might be fine and worthwhile, but how would you know? The sample available only has a taste of a song already well known. If there is more to be had, give me a taste. I have an extensive Vice discography, but will not be adding this to it until/unless I get more of a sample.

Thought this was a ringtone and purchased this would like a refund. Really like this song, but thought it was a ringtone. Disappointed
  • Sounds weird

Both "original Miami vice theme" and "Miami vice theme" don't sound like they did on tv I'm guessing Jan hammer redid those because they're not the same I've heard

Five stars for Jan Hammer, without question. Minus two for the sneaky underhanded way iTunes lumped the soundtrack releases together into a medley to make them album only and force you to buy the album. The Miami vice theme and crocketts theme were spared only because they have already been released on iTunes on a different comp.

Three words for you... Astounding! Buy it!
  • Track listing confusion

Jan Hammer sells via his web site an identically named 2-CD compilation at the same price as iTunes. There may be some confusion about the number of tracks, as several songs are combined into Medley listings here, broken out on the CD. My guess is the two offerings offer the same material, but if one just counts up number of tracks, it can be a tad confusing. Also, if one of the tracks you’re most interested in is in a Medley, forget buying it separately. Those are only available as album-only purchases. Still, if you’re a die-hard Jan Hammer fan, this is the collection of his Miami Vice work that you’re looking for.
  • Very good, but not complete

Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled that this even exists at all. For instance, in my quest for "Take It To The Limit" from Scarface, I had to buy an actual single and manually record it to digital. There are lots of great atmospheric tracks here. However, a collection of this magnitude is more than a sampling. It's virtually a sound library. Once you dive in head first, you begin to match certain particularly atmospheric scenes to the music. Then comes the letdown. I don't have a problem with this per se. It would be insane to market a truly complete collection. I just wish it weren't falsely labeled as such.

Great to hear the songs that were in the background of the show. What a wonderful compilation.

By Marc Loren Miami Vice: The Complete Collection is a powerful monument to composer Jan Hammer's groundbreaking soundtrack to one of television's most memorable series. With over two hours of music, this collection features 43 memorable cuts, including 23, which have never been released to the public before. Miami Vice redefined television and Jan Hammer's soundtrack completely redefined the way in which shows were scored. The result was a chart-topping commercial success never before seen from a television soundtrack and international acclaim for series and composer alike. While there have been other Miami Vice albums in the past, fans have long hoped for this expanded collection and, in resounding fashion, Hammer does not fail to deliver. The old favorites, such as the original "Miami Vice Theme" and "Crockett's Theme", are all there but the real payoff is a complete disc, 23 tracks, of previously unreleased gems such as "The Talk", surely one of Hammer's finest compositions from his three and a half years scoring Miami Vice. The end result of it all is a totally wonderful musical experience. Even after several listenings it continues to amaze me just how many memorable tracks there are and really, when you think about it, it is amazing that anyone could fill two CDs with great music from any television series. Hammer has the most incredible gift for mood and melody and his music stands tall even without the visual components it was written to accompany. Whether you are a fan of Miami Vice, Jan Hammer, or even if you just enjoy great music, Miami Vice: The Complete Collection delivers the goods. Marc Loren
